Cars.com video review...

Would any 1M owners please speak to his comments about the steering and feel?

I noticed the heavy steering immediately coming from a MINI JCW. But I dont think its a real issue. Like anything else it just takes getting use too which doesnt take too long.

I cannot relate to the comments he makes. Yes it is a bit heavier, but not too heavy. I like it like this. I also do not find it disconnected

Its heavier than my E46 3er, but by no means objectionable. I actually prefer out now that I have adjusted to it.

Steering feel is excellent but not as lively and connected as my E46. None of the new cars have steering that feels as good as the E46. I did notice that the steering in the 1M felt much better, more natural than the 135i, I drove several times before. IMO, there is nothing wrong with the steering feel but if you come from the E46, it is slighly less "natural" feeling.

Well, this may not be fair but the last e46 I drove was the 330i (m54?) with 86,000 miles and the steering felt much less "communicative" and weighted than my M-Sport 135i. I like the steering feel of the 135i over even a C6 Z06. Hopefully my 1M will be the same or better!

It goes both ways, the 135i feel artificially weighted and then slightly numb on center, but people like that. The E46 told you everything, sometimes it might feel like too much for some that is why Lexus and other companies have people that love that. Most people love the Window controls in the door, I think they are terrible. It forces you to change hands with a manual car and reach and sometimes glance off centerline. The center window controls allow you to keep you left hand on the wheel and vision on the centerline while changing gears or controlling windows with right hand.

So the lesson is this: The best steering feel in the world is the one that YOU like.

I definitely did not like the 135i feel, but I am happy with the 1M, but my E46 felt lively and natural.

i don't have my 1M yet (hence this question), but does the car only require "regular" gasoline as opposed to premium only?

In order to extract maximum boost pressure/ignition timing advance you'd want to run the highest octane fuel available.

I agree! The only exception is when it is under steering in a tight autocross course. It gets a little vague then, but so do most cars.

I didn't look and just assumed it was Premium like my 3 series.

^ That was my impression, too. Trolly type reviews always irritate me, but I try to be sensitive to any unique points they may have. Sometimes they make a point worth looking into.

That was related to the OP video: yes. It said at the end of the video that the 1M used "regular" gas. I understood the 1M to require premium.

There must be something wrong with my steering as it feels overly light compared to my 911 and even my Evo XI and I never found them to in anyway heavy.
