1M iDrive software update (not ECU)

Which versions are you lads running? I just updated mine with BMW latest update is UPD01006 (Latest Version, 8.07 MB). Once updated, the current versions should be: MX 003.005.004 and TX 003.005.006.

Link to update here, you need to enter your 7 digit VIN:
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/nav...gion=&country=

The update among other things has improved support for email messages. Improved display of text-message sender on iPhone devices with iOS6.

I thought you should know in case you haven't checked lately.

I just updated mine thanks Quang. It still doesnt display any messages from my iPhone, maybe I'll try updating my phone too.
Out of interest, is there any way of prompting the Internet to work with my iphone, it seems to just go round and round with the 'starting internet' text on the screen?

Hi Toby,

I have iPhone 5 and SMS works fine but I'm not getting emails through though, not sure why.

I got Internet working by turning on my personal hotspot and Bluetooth. It only work when car engine is off. It's not very fast even with 3G and i find the screen is a bit far away for it to be any useful to surf the net, YouTube may be the only thing it's good for IMO.

So SMS notifications, pop up on the idrive screen whilst driving?

Yup, you get a small envelope icon on the top right hand side of the screen to show new sms.
Then in the 'Office' menu you can read the messages. While the car is moving you can get them read to you.

SMS's will only pop up on iDrive provided your iphone screen is off, so it needs to be in standby mode. Also any messages are only stored/displayed on the screen until you turn the car off, they are then self cleared.

I don't think the email option is working just yet, I've not gotten it to work, but haven't done the update yet either.

Only on 1M with Prof Nav?

Does the latest update as shown by the OP provide SMS functionality on Business Nav (2011 Vert)?

I believe by entering your VIN, it can work out which update is relevant to your car. 1M in Australia comes standard with Professional Nav.

I don't think so. You can retro-fit but will need parts and code, costing about 800 euro afaik.

Using iphone, I know SMS come up on screen but I didn't think emails show up. Are you using Blackberry by chance? If using iPhone, I would like to know more.

The update wasn't for SMS messaging. More so a Bluetooth smart phone comparability update. Type your VIN into the site on the first post, and it will inform you if the update is applicable to your car.

I found the link regarding the BMW Apps if you're keen to do the retro-fit (about 500 euro+installation)

Is that the one where you can do a Google maps search on your phone and send it to the idrive?

Ian, I'm not sure about that. I do know we can't download the ConnectedDrive App as it's only available in USA Apps store so I don't know if the retrofit is any use for us in Aust. Below are the features of the retrofit:

The complete list of features of the 6NR option:
1.BMW Apps:
- Facebook,
- Twitter,
- Web Radio,
- 3rd party BMW Certified Apps, e.g. Pandora

2.BMW Plugin - "...changes the iDrive screen to the same look and feel as the iPod function on an iPhone. It allows you to take advantage of all the iPod features (Genius, album art, compiling playlists, etc) that are not available via the basic USB connection. With future iPhone software updates, new features will also be available in the car. An additional benefit comes in the way of increased interface speed.", BMW

3.Video Playback - enables video playback from iPhone

What would you need to have this working on your iDrive?

http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/29/b...ter/#continued

I have the professional Nav but I didnt option in the Google part as It seemed like a bit of a waste of time to me when I ordered.
