That is the same one they had in Dulles a few months ago, they are having a hard time selling it. The staff let the battery die and the windows locked up (20+ years and BMW still designs them like that... sigh). When the door is closed with the window locked, it bends the window and the plastics in the door, just be aware that the battery is crap now and the doors might need to be opened up and fixed. Anyways, I saw a kid with an //M shirt test drive every single BMW on the lot, including that one while I waited for my 135i test drive. It would be safe to assume a LOT of people have test driven it, some possibly not-so-good drivers who just wanted a joy ride.
Probably better if you could get a CPO from BMW if that ever happens, or from a single/double owner car that was treated better, but as long as it has a warranty I guess it would be pretty safe. |

Carmax seems to get the most 1M's because they offer decent values on trades. I personally would rather buy from an individual . However, I would not completely rule them out. There are cars on this site for sale that have more superficial histories than a carmax car. Personally, I value knowing who a car belonged to and what the car has experienced. I have considered and am considering selling my 1M and carmax is attractive because it is easy and sometimes offers strong values.. I did sell them my 135i for these reasons.

You should find my 1M listed at the Potomac Mills CarMax soon, I had to cash out as of yesterday. I really hate to see it go, hope someday to turn a 135 into a 1M with all the upgrades I wanted it to have without killing the investment value of a rare car.

Dang another one gone. I'm hoping to save one before going to carmax where everybody drives them and they sit outdoor for months. I think einsers sat outside for a year! Sad. Any of you guys with no nav cars let me know before carmaxing a car? These cars deserve better ! : )

Scott,
Why didn't you post it on the forum classifieds? How much did Carmax give you?

I bought my M235i at Nalley BMW in Decatur. Total impulse buy. Two days later I brought it in for some tech training and saw a white 1M on their used car lot.
To be clear I love my 2 ... But dammit I wish I'd bought that 1M. Especially after driving this car with its damn electronic steering ... It's a nice car, it's a fun car, it's a beautiful car ... But it's just missing something for me. Something that really made it a BMW. |

Concerning most cars the saying always goes..."It will never be worth more than it is today!" This, is concerning your M235. I bet 1M values will drop with the M2 in the short term but long term they have got to come up. (look up values of the Z8 which had higher production numbers than the 1M). So if you can afford to make the switch, stomaching the depreciation loss on the M235 right now could be washed away by the gain that could be had with the 1M long term (provided its a reasonable deal now and you keep it nice) all the while you have the car you really want. I drove a M235 a couple months before I got my 1M. Since I could get a Center Employee Lease the monthly payment on the M235 would have been about half of what my payment is on the 1M...but I don't regret it. |

I had high hopes that M235 would help me deal with the loss of 1 M. And while a great ride it was too soft for me. I kept trying to drive different ones and just didn't feel right. Looking for 1M too. Right now 235s are in short supply and still have good value. If you can find 1M it will reward long term.

I think what will hit our cars the most will be going out of warranty. I wonder what the maxcare extended warranty for the 1M would cost through carmax lol.

And to your point, I wonder how much Z8 values or any other comparable car is influenced by going out of warranty? E30 M3's are discussed at Hagerty as well and show a drastic uptic in 2012 although a 'clean' example is hard to find which likely drives that value. Either way, I feel comfortable enough to tell myself it's not going to depreciate and not worry about it. ...sorry for jacking the thread. |

I bet more people would use "our" classified area to sell to a fellow enthusiast if the classifieds were easier to find. The Porsche forum site, RennList, does a really nice job w vehicle classifieds; we should try to do something similar.
