Dealer Prep of your car..

My 330 should arrive from the fatherland the first week of march :rocks:

The day I signed the papers, I told my salesman (who had been extremely helpful and easy going) that I wanted to be in the car if it was taken off the lot for a test drive by the mechanic. (I read somewhere that a 10mile test drive is part of BMW's prep) He immediately said that wasn't possible b/c of insurance reasons, even though I'll have the car insured by the time it arrives.. We went back and forth a bit about why I wanted to be along for the ride if it was going to be driven, and he eventually said he wasn't sure if they even did that (drove cars) any longer..

Did your dealership drive your car before you could take it, or did you get it with <1mile on the clock?

If it turns out they need to drive it, I plan on talking to whoever I need to in order to either be along for the drive or have them deliver it without taking it out.. The last thing I want is to get my nice new car and think some shmuck has taken it out for a free joy ride..

Mine had 1 mile prior to the PDI, 12 miles afterwards.

Edit: BTW, I chose which Tech I wanted to do the PDI.

Did you remember to tell them to NOT to drill the front bumper?

Supposedly part of the PDI process involves the BMW Tech driving the vehicle 12-16 miles. To my understanding this is per BMW NA guidelines.

BMW N.A. REQUIRES a Certified BMW tech to drive the car as a part of the multi faceted "Pre Delivery Inspection" to check all systems before the delivery to the customer.
He might drive it around the block or might go down to the Tasty Freeze .... Its his call.

It would be HIGHLY UNLIKELY to let a customer ride with the Tech. (Technicians typically do not have wonderful customer relation skills and the Sales Dept may not want to risk a negative dimension to the sales process. )

Another way miles may get on your car is they have to drive it to fill it with petrol for you.

Another note here -- The car you ordered IS NOT YOURS UNTIL YOU PAY FOR IT. And - BMW dealers are not allowed to sell it until the PDI is done......

note: I have seen cars come in with 0 miles and I have seen cars come in with 10 .... you never know.....

My car had less than 3 miles on it when I picked it up. I got it the morning after the dealer did.

Yes, same here. Mine wrote 17 on mine. Says they put that on all lease forms by default to cover cars that come in w/ more for whatever reason.
