Used 1M or new 135i
Hey Guys,
I'm pretty set on a 1 series car. The only other option would be a 2010-2011 M3, but lets put that aside for now. In Canada I can get a used 1M with 20,000 Km (~12,500 miles) for the same price as a new 2013 135i FULLY loaded. Given the choice what would you choose, and why? Thanks! |

1M. mainly because of value. when you start modding your 135, you'll wind up spending way more than what a brand new 1M had gone for. so a used 1M with a fair asking price can be the ultimate deal. also resale value. limited production M car will hold it's value better than any series car

i woudnt even think twice id take the 1m even with double that miles on it! . Love the wide body kit on that car! dual exausts and the interior is just so sick! its expensive here in southafrica almost twice the price of a 135i basicly =/.

1M assuming you're not overpaying just because it's a limited production car. The 1M seems like it offers more in stock form over than 135i.

Pretty sure most will chime in and agree that the 1M would be the better choice. I know I'd for sure take a 1M over a 135i.
But I guess if you were going to use the car stricktly as a daily driver, maybe the 135i would be better? I have not driven a 1M, so I don't know the answer...

I would go with the 1M over a new 135i.
1M Pros: Wide body with wider stance Upgraded suspension Upgraded interior Unique with better resale N54 New 135i Pros: New car with full warranty Used 135i Pros: Much cheaper Pre 11 = N54 = Same drive train as the 1M! Much cheaper |

Is the 1M a stripper? If you could get a loaded up 1M for around the same price as a loaded 135 then I would say 1M all day long.

Wow, I was not expecting that kind of response. Truth was I'm leaning towards the 1M, but the practical guy in me is steering me towards the new car.
The actual 1M car I'm looking at is VO and has Nav/Apps, but no executive package (I think that is what it is called). The price is almost the exact same as a fully loaded 135i, with full leather, premium, executive and nav. Thanks for all the responses. |

Unless you plan to drive the speed limit everywhere and never take the car to the track/autox/drive it like a BMW was meant to be driven, then the 135 would be a better choice or a 128 for much less.
The 1M has a more harsh ride, it is a little bit louder, the front bumper is lower...that's about it in the cons department. You will get another year or so of warranty with the 135. Honestly though, if you are able to find both at similar prices there is no question the 1M is a better buy. To me, options were irrelevant. I entered the market too late to order a new one, so I found one second hand that ended up being loaded save for the HK sound and satellite radio. The Nav/Idrive is pretty slick, especially for ipod/iphone usage. That said this car is so awesome I really would have been satisfied if the only one I could have found had no options at all. On the street the 135 is ~95% of the 1M. That extra 5% makes the 1M feel very very special. I was cruising around yesterday (weather happened to drop about 30 degrees, helping those turbos) and thought to myself that this was the perfect car. If you can drive both before making the decision you should just so you have no regrets. For many people the 135 is probably perfect and plenty of car for their needs. The 1M is still a very good daily driver. Decent fuel economy (I drive like an ass and get about 19 in the city). Again it is lower, has a rough ride in comparison to a lot of cars but it certainly isn't unbearable. If you are anything like me, buying the 135 instead of the 1M would have been regretful (I was very close to ordering a new 135, also looked at used M3s). |

I would say it depends on you. Do you want a sporty car that's comfortable and new, or would you prefer something used that's a real enthusiast's car?
I personally would like the 1M.

If I could have afforded a 1M, I'd have bought one instead of a new 135is, which I got for a price no 1Ms are even close to at this point. So if you're seeing similar prices and can afford both - 1M a million times.
