Need new tires, going to swap out my RFTs.
My service advisor told me I have 5/32 tread left on the rear tires and that I should consider getting a new set of tires.
I don't give a flying fuck about what my service advisor said, for the record. Anyway, I need stickier tires and want to keep that 5/32 tread left for when my lease runs out and I can still mount them back on the car in 3 years during trade in. So, help me decide. I am really leaning towards the Dunlop Star Spec's for all 4 shoes. 235/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear on stock rims? The FAQ of this forum says that 235s will require a wider rim, but I searched and numerous people are running 235s front on stock rims.

235 will fit on the rim, but the tire is not tested/guaranteed to work on a 7.5 in rim width. You can risk it, but there is no chance of any warranty covering problems on "too large" a rim.
I don't recommend it if you are just street driving, but it's your choice. |

That seems to be the most common setup around here. I have those same size Star Specs on 18" wheels and it looks fine (haven't mounted them on the car yet, though).

225/40 and 255/35 in Hankook seems to be really popular.
I run 205/50/17 hankook on my 128i and they stick like glue..... but now I realize how bad my suspensions is. |

i have 225/40 & 255/35 w/ the Goodyear f1 Asymetrics. So far much better stickiness over the RFT and doesn't feel like you have bricks for tires when hitting a bump. These tires however make me realize how much the suspension needs to be upgraded though. KW v2's are in the future for me.

Cant wait!!!!
I only have about 4/32 tread left on my stock RFTs. Gonna keep them in my garage and hope the dealer takes the car back with these sh1t tires with 4/32 tread... When my lease is up in 3 years

You should be alright. If I remember correctly the tires have to have at least 2/32 of tread left on a lease return, otherwise you'll be charged for them.
