I originally had the runflats like everyone else, but I swapped them out after only about 4000 miles when I got my first flat.

Since then, I've been driving around on Dunlop DIrezza Z1 Star Specs and I've been pretty happy. I got a flat on a rear tire today, though, and I noticed the tread is coming off the tire and I doubt it could be repaired. I have hit the tread-wear marks on the rear tires anyways. The front tires look like they have a little more life in them (maybe another 5k to 10k).

So now my dilemma is whether I should get two more Dunlops for the back and replace the fronts next summer or if I should go with a whole new set of different summer tires. I'm thinking maybe Bridgestone Potenza SO-4 PPs as I had the S-02 and S-03 on my TT and I was pretty happy with them.

I don't autocross anymore, and, well, I barely even drive aggressively so I wonder if the "extreme performance tire" category is a bit overkill for me. It would be cheaper to get the Dunlops for now, since I'd only need 2 (for the rears) but that kind of locks me in to sticking with those tires.

I'd appreciate any suggestions for other tires, too. I live in Boston, and do a lot of city driving on rather horrible roads (potholes, etc) and have to contend with rain. I have a set of snow tires and rims so I don't need all-season tires. Summer performance tires I can use from April to November is what I'm looking for.

If money isn't a factor I would go with Michelin PSS(Pilot Super Sports) since they are the all around best tires.

If you are a bit more budget friendly then pickup the Hankook V12's which are good for performance and in the rain.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to go with the Michelins. They seem like great tires.

Another question... I know this is probably a bad idea, but I'm desperate. I need my car to get to around this weekend. I'm not traveling far but I'm moving and I need to be able to clean stuff out of my old apartment and I don't really have the time to go rent a car.

I know it's going to take until next week to get the new tires and I'm almost 100% sure my current tire is not repairable. I thought I was stuck but then I realized I still have my old run-flats lying around, which includes 2 nearly new rear tires. Would it be a really bad idea to have those tires mounted in the rear until my new tires come in? I know you aren't supposed to mix tires of different types but I need something to drive for the weekend.

I plan on going a size wider all around like I did last time (225/40/18 and 255/35/18). I didn't have any problems doing that but tirerack have me a big warning when I selected those tires. Any have any issues? Is it not recommended anymore?

The wider tires are much cheaper for some reason.

Just be real careful when cornering and braking - especially if you encounter wet roads. And get the proper set of 4 similar tires on ASAP.

I don't think I've ever bought tires from Tire Rack without getting some kind of warning. Just ignore it.

I went to NTB to see if they could mount my old runflats on the rear wheels and they said they wouldn't because the tires were cracked (inside the treads there were long cracks). I have no idea why they were cracked as they only have about 4 or 5k on them. Maybe it's because they were stored in a place that was cold. Oh well.

I'm stuck renting a car in the meantime, and I'm placing an order for new 225/40ZR-18 and 255/35ZR-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport XL. They should be here Tuesday.
