So, the list on that Car Sales link says 1 series coupes and convertibles but doesn't mention hatches...is that just cos they copied the list from the US one, where I think the hatches weren't sold...or were they? I'm confused!

By the looks of this blog, 1M's and M3's not included in recall, due to a different setup.

Just got a call from BMW Stealership, that my car is not affected by the recall

My car model is 2011 N55, which mean other forum members who have the same batch year as mine is safe then.

Not sure if I need to cross-checked again

Interesting. Mine's also an August 2010 build and my dealer says they don't yet have a full list of VINs affected from Germany but that they believe that my car IS affected.

They also said that BMW Aus will be sending Letters to affected people next month.

Guess we'll just wait and see...

Rule No 1.
Dealers NEVER tell the truth. Only what they want you to believe.

Any clues to look for to identify a possible bad connection??? Kinda paranoid here. Checked out my battery and everything looks good...

I bought mine privately, I guess I have to go chasing them up for an answer.

Any idea on when they will receive this list of affected VINs?

I was reading about the recall in the German news magazine Der Spiegel. From the reader's comments at the end of the article, not all Germans are enamoured with BMW's (or indeed VW's or Mercedes). One person wrote "BMW is the master at producing high value-added vehicles from low quality components". Hmmm...

I wonder why it costs Americans $10,000 less to buy and Australian made car than it costs us to buy the same vehicle in Australia...

Way I see it: It's a decision each individual has to make for themselves - balancing the time/effort of removing/reinstalling vs possible consequences of it being found on the car.

At the end of the day, make your own decision but I just can't see how it's a good idea to recommend that someone take a warranty-voiding risk like that for no reason other than to save 30 minutes of effort - regardless of what you/I may or may not do...

It's like what Clarkson says about Alfas: He'd buy one himself but he'd never recommend one to a friend.
Have to disagree..

But each to their own... If you have to ask " if its a good idea to remove", then heck, just remove if you are that concerned about a tune being detected, whilst replacing a battery connector in the boot...

IMO, its a waste of time removing the tune.

I had the injectors replaced, and on a seperate occasion had the turbo sensors replaced, without removing the tune..

BUT, if it helps you sleep at night, go for it and remove the tune..
I had the jb4 soldered, it's never leaving the car!!!

- other readers chimed in with recalls from VW, and faults in Mercedes, so I guess this is what happens with mass-produced cars, no matter what price point. Even Toyota is in the middle of a massive recall. At the other end of the scale, you have the super cars, which accordingto Top Gear are fragile in the extreme.

I understand that the part affected is a mod intended for cars sold in "hot" climates. What that means I don't know.
