So here's my crazy story of yesterday and today:
Friday: I woke up at 3:45 am to catch a 6:06 am flight from Pittsburgh to Little Rock, AR, connecting through Chicago and supposed to get into Little Rock at 9:30am. As we are in the air for about an hour (about the duration the flight should be), I notice we are heading towards the sunrise for quite some time. This was odd as the flight was a western flight. Then we proceeded to circle in a holding pattern for 2 hours 200 miles out of Chicago when we learn while on the flight that there was a fire at the ATC in Aurora, IL. They were low on fuel so we were then diverted to Cleveland. We land in Cleveland they instruct us to de-board and get in line for re-booking. There were 9 flights diverted to Cleveland so the lines were extremely long. By the time I was able to get to the counter, all the flights out of Cleveland had been sold out. Realizing Akron was only an hour away, I managed to book a 5:00 PM flight out of there through Charlotte getting in Little Rock at 9:00 PM. So I took a car service to Akron and continued my journey. I land in Little Rock and the seller picks me up and we return to his house to finalize the deal. He was very understanding and helpful through the stressful day which was a relief. Car is as described and I did ask if the HPFP had ever been replaced, and he was not sure as he was not the original owner. I was going to bring it to BMW upon my return regardless to ensure all recall work was done. So, I begin my journey back from Little Rock to Pittsburgh at about 10:30 or 11:00pm. I drive through the night and fight on. At 12:00pm Saturday morning, I am 20 miles from my house merging onto my final highway and boom car goes into Limp Mode as I am scrambling trying to get the car to the shoulder during a merge with cars to the left of me and behind me. First thing I thought of was the HPFP and won't know for sure until BMW takes a look Monday. Here's my dilemma: He has a lien on the car, which was paid off by my bank to Bank of America, however, I won't receive the title to transfer ownership or register it for at best a few days. I'm assuming as I have yet to speak with BMW, but until the car is transferred to me officially they wouldn't begin work on the car on my behalf until I officially own it. Should I reach out to the seller and see if he will approve the work as BMW in their eyes would still consider him the owner? I had a very long 2 days, 34 hours in total to get this car back. Note to self: spend the extra $$ and just ship the damn thing. Any help or suggestions would be great. Thanks!

Nice to see another member from Pittsburgh! Like the other poster said, the warranty follows the car, not the owner. What dealer are you planning on taking it to?

Yup pretty much the worst has already happened. Enjoy your new car once you get it back from service!

I had a tail light go the weekend I went to fetch my 1er out of town. When I got back the warranty work was carried out under the old owner's name while the paperwork was put together to transfer it into mine. |
