Autoblog Covers 1-Series Pricing

Linkie. It's interesting to see what the general car enthusiast population has to say about der 1er.

My favorite comment so far is this one:
If this is over $30k fully loaded then I can't see many people buying. Why would I when I could get the 3 for a few thousand more? I can see the poseurs going for it but not normal people.

Finally someone starting to speak with a clue over there. Sometimes I feel the "Freedom of Speech" needs to be restricted from the morons of the world.

It looks like most posters haven't really investigated the 1-Series very thoroughly. Have any of you checked out the brake set-up? How about six-piston fixed calipers in the front and four-piston fixed in the rear? That's waaaaay beyond the brakes on the 3-Series, and probably better than the always-underbraked M3.

True, the 135i doesn't weigh a lot less (200 lbs) than the 335i, but it's a much more focused car in terms of size and attitude.

Finally, look at what else is out there for $34k. VW R32, Evo, STI, 350Z... the 135i will be competitive with all of these cars in terms of performance, and trumps them for cachet and desirability. If you want a 3-Series, buy one! But if you want a more focused driver's car, the 135i is worth every penny.

.... and some might argue the guy with the 530 is a poseur or wears lipstick since he didn't buy the V8.

That's funny, cause my wife, my brothers wife, and my mom all drive 5 series. Maybe he's the one that should be wearing the lipstick! 5 series are great cars, I LOVE my wifes 2002 530, but I would rather have a E46 330, E92 335, or the 135 as my primary.

Why does it matter what model of BMW you drive, I have a M5, but still considering a 135i, for what it brings to the table. Each vehicle has it's own assets, that's why the different models. You buy a BMW for it's quality, performance, and style, and to fit your personality and needs. So why should it matter which one you drive, they all have their own unique assets.
