I hope the car doesn't rattle apart like the current 1-series.

Questions for Scott

Hi Scott, thanks for all of the information. Really excited about the ///M1 Coupe to go along side my E60 ///M5.

1) Will BMW reinforce the 7 speed 2 clutch DKG for use in the X5/X6 M? I feel like the use of the 6 speed automatic in these vehicles was the biggest disappointment.

2) If not, will the X5/6 M receive an M version of the new ZF 8 speed automatic soon?

3) Is there a 5th generation version of the automated manual coming, i.e. 8 speed 2 clutch DKG? Will this first be offered in the F10 M5?

Joe

Old 911's have a very progressive and controllable oversteer behavior at the limit. They have the reputation for snap-oversteer based entirely on poor drivers who applied the brakes, once the car began to rotate. Applying the throttle during a slide results in the most user-friendly drifting behavior imaginable.

Modern 911's have been neutered and will tend to understeer in almost every situation as you described.

The 930 was really the car that earned the 911 its reputation for biting drivers in a corner, since its throttle response was so poor that applying the throttle in a corner did not act as expected, since the turbo lag was immense.

Hi Scott,

another question comes to my mind:

Seeing the wide fenders/track of the M1 test mule and considering the fact mentioned by scott that an LSD (M-Differential) will be available:

What kind of rear axle wil be built into the M1? Is it a transfer from the E9x? Or maybe even the rear axle of the current E9x M3?

Best regards

The advertising concept is a work in progress but that is the idea I had when I first seen the car in Munich. The idea to accomodate the S1000 RR was because the car in White Matte finish with M stripes offered a continuity with the colour finish of the bike , so we wheeled one in.

"Joy is...Indulgence" because the S1000 RR is a piece of indulgence it's like the must have gadget or latest trend . 1-M is seen in the exact same way
It will be their object of desire, an indulgence if you will, that many will want to own.

But Scott...why have the ad in LA? Why not NYC? Have them go into the Battery tunnel
With New York City there is still some angst of shooting such acts as almost recently a preformance car I think a Ferrari was shooting in a Nicholas cage film and mounted the sidewalk and crashed into a shop front and a pedestrian, I think.
So the NYPD film and media unit are cagey about Performance cars ripping up the streets.

When we do these shoots , especially if you consider New York we can only shoot in the early hours of the morning as it is virtually impossible any other time.

LA is more logistic and weather friendly.

Thanks for the answers as always Scott--we appreciate it.

I bet the white matte looked great on the M1...you had said before that matte options and maybe a few other new colors would be available for the M1--are those options going to extend to other series as well? Aka, could someone get a matte white E92?

Thanks Scott for your answers

Just a couple of questions:

1. Is BMW considering developing the Vision Concept into production, and if so what date we would be expecting it?
2. Is the new trademark of M50d going to be the production version of the Vision Concept, and if so, what the '50' stands for?

Scott,

I´ve read something about a Sepang Matte, can you confirm if this paint will be available when the car is released?

Hi Scott26,

Any chance that there might be something coming, that's special performance wise, for the 128 or 328?

Thanks,
Leif W.

Hello Scott, do you know much about what boots the M 1 series will wear? I understand the 135i has a unusual wheel size. Would something like a 9x17 ET-7 fit on the 1 M?

Thanking you.

Hi Scott,

Since the new M1 will have around 360-ish Hp... does that mean it will really have 420-ish Hp with over boost feature?

Since the 335is and Z4 3.5is have over-boost, is it a safe bet the M1 will also feature this system?

Thanks,
David

Questions for Scott:

Will the 1 Coupé/Convertible (E82/88) get LCI for MY 2012, and so get new LED headlights and taillights so as the 3ers (E9x) LCI?

Will the M1 get a light-weight battery?

Will the M1 get coilovers?

Will the M1 get radio-delete option?

Will the M1 get speed-limite to 250 km/h?

About M CSL / M GTS: BMW M does not build such cars as they do not sell well, there are to little "purists" that such a car should be rentable. But if BMW M build such cars in limited production number it is mainely for maketing purpose. If not to talk about engine, drivetrain, and so, what is there so expensive in lightening a car? I do not speak of replacing the alu/steel chassis by carbon fibre, but just making CF hood, bootlid, roof, doors and door inner-panels? Is it so expensive to have lighter inner panels as the M3 GTS and 1 Tii? Is it so expensive to build a car without radio and to put lightweight seats as Recaro for example (some lighther than Recaro Sportster)?

If ppl like the Mustang then go out and bloody well buy it and stop going on about how much of a competitor it is. I am sure they would come back and report that its a completely different car to drive. Lets stop the childish arguments and get out to drive the damn cars and stop bitching like school kids in the playgound.
