- "to cherry pick" or "to hand pick": to select only the best from a range of options, to select the best or most desirable, to select with great care. Instead of garbling "1M is no real M car" and "1M is the poor man's M3" mumbo-jumbo, do us all an IRL favor: - visit a BMW dealership where they have a 1M and an M3 for sale (look hard because the 1M has become a rare find); - drive both back-to-back; - make an offer under MSRP for both; - let us guess which one of the two will definitely not leave the dealer's premises for an offer under MSRP; - try to figure out the reason for the difference. Bottom-line: Mum & Dad got you a younger brother. Same genes. Get over it, friendo. |

Apologies in advance and click 'play' at your own cognizance.
I'll even take Celine Dion over the drivel being spewed by you-know-who.

Not a real M car. What matters most, driving pleasure and performance or the M badge on the rear lid of the car? Arguing whether its a M car is like arguing whether a Gucci bag without the logo is still a gucci bag. Who cares, sounds too much like competition for the biggest brand whore. The argument should be the performance of 1M against rest of the M cars in the line up and I think 1M stands pretty tall against x6m, x5m, and up to par with M3. Now if we use the performance/dollar figure 1M beats all of them.

My dealer has a 2009 M3 sedan with 20k miles for $43k. I test drove it and loved the sound, but the car was not otherwise impressive to me. Felt big and heavy. Then he mentioned they had a 1-series M coming in that wasn't yet spoken for, and the rest is history.

All that nonsense about "not real" and "not pure" lacks the slightest practical use. If a car is worth sporting the ///M badge for BMW M GmbH, then what credentials do you have to challenge their point of view? Moreover, I cannot think of any practical consequence of your assumption, except for silly "mine's bigger than yours" playground ego issues. Sue BMW M GmbH if you are convinced that it was an ill-founded move of them to present the 1M as their latest addition to the ///M family. Or sell your M3 because - in your view - the "pureness" of the ///M badge was contaminated and doomed with the release of that dreadful souped up 135i earlier this year.
