Cracked Front OEM Wheel, replace or fix?
Hello addicts,
Driving in Chicago, the pot holes has caused me to change out on 3 RFT with one including a front cracked wheel in 1.5 years. I've departed with RFT and now switched over to Hankook Ventus v12 evo k110, but running a winter tire until I get the wheel replaced or fixed?? What would you all suggest? I posted some pictures of the damage wheel.. Last edited by remaeb; 04-30-2012 at 06:24 PM.. Reason: Didn't want to state where I live |

May be if it was bent slightly then you might be able to fix it but by the looks of this you should replace it

Cracked or bent wheels are very common with our cars because of the stiff sidewalls from the RFT's.
I personally bent two and cracked one wheel and had to replace them entirely with a set of VMR's. Ditching the RFT's as well while I was at it. Just replace all 4, and keep the set around with one or two mounted with tires as a spare at home in the garage. |

Bummer. If you don't want to spend much, just replace the 1 wheel, especially if you have a new set of tires for the OEM size wheels.
Me, I'd replace the wheel, but use the set as winters and buy a wider set for summer. If you can't afford that all at once, replace the wheel, use up the Hankooks, put snows on for the winter and buy a whole new summer set up next spring.

I have seen a few wheel repaires and have been suprised at how good they turn out. The most recent was a repair to a set of AMG wheels on a SL63AMG that had a crack. The owner showed me the wheel and I could not see where the repair had been made. The wheel looked brand new. I have also seen a repair on a few Porache rims and the results looked very good and the cost was not as high as I would have thought.

I wouldn't worry about the repair holding up if it's done properly, but the cost is likely to be close to a new wheel anyway as I recently found out ($250).

I wouldn't replace it with stock.
Had one of mine crack and I, unfortunately, paid $150 to repair it. That was before I read up on so many people having the same issue. Now, to top it off, the dealer just called. They have my car in for its final service appointment prior to warranty end. I was informed that at least 2 of my wheels are "bent." Needless to say, I'm not replacing with stock.

You can probably fix that. Just know that even if you weld it back up, any major pothole that you run into on that spot, it'll re-crack. Let me know if you'd like to replace your set with VMR's.

Searching for a replacement 264, I noticed a lot of the wheels are re-manufactured / refinished sold by companies and I suspect a lot of them have been bent or cracked. And didn't find anyone selling a used 264..
I decided to stick with my 264s and repair the crack. Thanks for the rim offers.. Found a shop that will powder coat the wheels and fix the crack included in the price.. I'm taking the wheels in this Friday to get the makeover .. Going to powder coat them semi gloss black with a red pinstripe.. |
