Stock to Performance Exhaust on 128i Vid
After researching a bit on 1addicts (thanks to all that posted video and picture) I decided to swap out the stock exhaust w/ BMW Performance exhaust. Cost was a little less than $1k including install at my local dealer. The clip was not included but I was prepared for that due to other's experiences. The sound is much better than stock. I have an automatic and I find that in Sport mode the gears, especially when going from a stop to say 30 mph, is a bit smoother. I used to never drive in Sport mode because I thought the gear changes a bit jerky (until you get moving). There does seem to be a bit of a bump in power. No drone. The main thing though is the sound. 2k-3k & 4k-5k RPM. Much, much throatier than before. Below is video showing before and after.

I picked up my Performance Exhaust on these forums for under $350 shipped! It had under 1000 miles on it and arrived flawless. I had it installed by my BMW guy (15 year BMW/Porsche mechanic) for $75 out the door. Total install $425! It sounds so good, I decided to buy my car after the lease ends instead of turning in...yes it sounds THAT GOOD!!

I wonder how loud it is compared to the e92 335i performance exhaust? I've never heard them side by side

After a few weeks the sound has mellowed a little bit. Even though when starting up a few car alarms of cars parked next to mine have gone off. Added plus. There is a noticeable bump in low-end torque and smoothing of gear changes (mind you, not a ton). My wife, who normally does not notice these things, commented as such after driving the car for a few days. So far both exhaust and intake have been a good add-on.

I installed the PE on my wife's car the day it was delivered - in my driveway. Took about an hour, some blue tape to mark cut lines, a hack saw and various hand tools to remove/replace the mounting brackets and tighten the clamp around the pipe and muffler neck. Ordered the exhaust prior to delivery and they came in within a few days of each other. Been on the car for 2 1/2 years, no problems at all.

Why didnt you just rent a sawzall?? Took me no more than 15-20 minutes to cut the old one off, and throw the PE on.
I do have a car lift at my office though so i just used that, didnt even have to take the diffuser off, but i still cannot imagine hacking that thing off with a hack saw. Not in this florida weather at least haha. |
