N55 (?) for 135i?
http://www.worldcarfans.com/11001122...r-single-turbo
New twin-scroll turbocharged inline six highlights the changes Woodcliff Lake, NJ - January 11, 2010... BMW's EfficientDynamics philosophy continues with the 2011 135i Coupe and Convertible models which feature the company's latest twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six cylinder engine. Both models will feature the 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission (DCT) as an option. The new six-cylinder (N55 designation) develops maximum output of 300 hp at 5,800 rpm, with peak torque of 300 lb-ft available all the way from 1,200-5,000 rpm. This is the same level of performance as the current 3.0-liter twin-turbo six-cylinder but with the innovation of twin-scroll technology and the integration of VALVETRONIC throttle-less intake technology, this new engine promises even better throttle response and even more fuel efficiency. Thanks to VALVETRONIC, VANOS, and the twin-scroll turbocharger housing, peak torque is reached 100rpm earlier than with the previous engine, and engine boost response is improved across the entire engine speed range. In order to enhance the sporting character of the optional 7-speed Double-Clutch Transmission, the shift paddles now feature dedicated paddles for upshifting and down shifting. The driver now pulls the right paddle for upshifts and the left for down shifts. Manual shifts may also be accomplished via the console mounted e-shifter. Harman Kardon Surround Sound System replaces HiFi System Professional as the upgrade sound system option. The 2011 BMW 135i Coupe and Convertible will go on sale in the United States as 2011 models in Spring 2010. |

I'd be comfortable going back to that approach after only a couple of months with the new 135. I just haven't spent enough time really driving the 135 to be absolutely fluent with the BMW approach. i.e I still on the rare occasion flick the left paddle (behind the wheel) in an attempt to change down a gear (a la the GTI) only to find I've changed up a gear and you just don't get the same thrust out of sixth as you do in fourth. Embarrassing really! |

I may or may not have redlined a loan car not realising that you had to pull to shift up and press to shift down...
I prefer the dedicated flappy paddle approach. Clearly. } |

ie, if the user really wanted they could make the right one forward for up, back for down and on the left side forward for down and back for up :P or just buy a real manual, auto's. pffft :P

Bit sad to be losing the twin turbos, no doubt it'll be a great engine.
My build date is March this year (which is when spring in the US starts) - wondering if I'll get an '11 build or not... |

I have already done this so that it works like the GTI above only after the second day I got my car. I hated how BMW had it arsed wrong way around, wasnt natural. There is a great DIY on this. |

Spoke to my dealer today and he said that the Australian specs changes for the March build had not been confirmed yet and he would know more next month when the final details for the March build were confirmed.
Disclaimer - Don't shoot, flame or otherwise injure the messenger I am just passing on what I was told I am hoping there might be some changes to the Hi-Fi Professional option other than just the name change mentioned on some of the US threads as I had a listen to it today in a 135i Convertible and it is definitely not as good as the Dynaudio in the VW

Since picking the car up in early November I'v done just a tick ove 700km, all city driving really. During that time I've spent the best part of 5 weeks overseas hence the low use. I done the majority of driving in manual model but have tended to use the stick (which is of course reversed from the GTI) or the old technique i used in the GTi which as right paddle up a gear and the stick own. I don't really mind the BMW approach its just different and I need some driving time to develop the necessary habit. |

Further to my post above briefly saw my Salesman today and he mentioned the memo giving March production changes for Australia was in his inbox this morning. He has not had a chance to go through it yet but was going to get back to me when he does.
Had a chance to drive a 125i Convertible with Hi-Fi Professional in it as against just sitting in it yesterday. Had a play round with some of the EQ setting as suggested in the audio forum and while it is growing on me it still lacks the texture of the Dynaudio system and the DSP staging doesn't seem as good so hopefully the change in the Hi-Fi is more than just a code number change

Updating this thread.
My sales guy @ BMW Melbourne contacted me to confirm what I suspected: my Feb production slot has been canceled by BMW and moved to March, and that March '10 build will indeed have the N55 twin scroll turbo engine. Sounds like I should have one of the first N55 135i's in the country! Only downside is that I will have to wait for tuners to get their hands on it for development and testing. I have a manual on order so the DCT update will not affect me. |

The big question ...
Will the N55 solve the HPFP problem that has plagued the N54? Makes you wonder because the N54 hasn't been around all that long (launched late 2006). And the N55 was launched in early 2009 (in the 535i).

Spoke to the dealer today - I'm currently set for March build which I can keep - I'll get a manual N54. I have the option of pushing my build back to April if I want the N55 and DCT.

Why do you say that? The new donk seems to have the same power/torque specs as the N54 but max torque comes in at even lower RPM than our N54.
