another aggressive front fitment
Lets make it fit with no rub!
Would it be easier to run a 18x8.5 et35 or 18x9 et45 up front. I assumer a 5mm spacer would be needed running the 18x9 to not hit strut since rim is 12.8mm wider with a 5mm spacer the rim would probably come out even a bit further (2.5mm) than the 8.5 et35? Tires 245/35/18. ideally 255/35/18 but that might be tough on the outside. Any camber can be run. the less the better. Car will not be slammed. Functional fit. Fenders will be rolled. Not pulled. Which one makes more sense?? |

An 8.5 +35 will stick out 1.4mm less than a 9.0 +40. However, running the same tire will stretch it slightly more on the 9" rim so I would venture that in practice they are so close that you could consider them the same.
Both are aggressive front fitments; for a 245-35-18 I would expect you will need between -2.0 and -2.5 degrees camber for truly 0 rubbing under any circumstances depending on the width of the tire, say a skinny Continental vs a wide Bridgestone. Mark

Not too many good tires offered in 245/35. I figured Ide run a MPSS, unless someone has any better suggestions. I ran a togo R1R on my last car and loved it. Now I'm on Bridgestone Pole Positions and they are good but not in same league as R1R. I wish they did a 235/35 that would solve everyones problems |

To give you an idea, I run a 255-40-17 on a 17x9 +45 and require a 12mm spacer to clear the strut enough to not rub under aggressive cornering.
A 3-5mm spacer is extremely common on even 8.5 +45 wheels, I would say a 5mm is going to be bare minimum on a 9.0 +45. Mark

Good luck clearing the strut. Running 17x9 ET35 w/ 255 RS3 and even now, I see tire rub marks on the strut. Hope you have -3 camber and a great fender/bumper roll.

wow, perhaps since you have a smaller diameter wheel and your tire begins slightly lower than on a 18" wheel? Also the larger sidewall you have might make it flex a little more than a 35 sidewall. RS3 is also a pretty chunky tire...which... ide love to run. . Wouldn't have expected to hear that from the research i did. Always good to hear actual experience.

x8.5+35
has the same inner clearance as x9+31 and x9.5+22 (which will struggle with the outer clearance) Have fun! |

I run 18x9 et45 up front. When I test fit rim only without tire the rim just clear the strut. With tires installed due the rim protector on tire sticking out, 5mm spacers were not enough. So I try 8mm and 10mm. I would say 7mm would be best. My camber is -1.8 up front. Car lowered with dinan springs. Front fenders are heavily rolled and pulled. I rub with 10mm spacer. Very light rub with 8mm spacers. 9" wheel is not easy to fit up front

8.5 +35 is good but depending on tire choice, you will still need lots of camber.
I just ordered 8.5 +35 and 225-40-18 front tires and can report once installed, but I expect you'll need -2.3 to -2.5 to clear with my tire choice. With a 245 I would imagine you would need -2.6 to -2.8. With my wide 255 on a 17x9 +33, my car rubbed with 2.85 degrees and is clear with 3.00 degrees.

I found another wheel I like but rear offset is et45. (18x9.5) looks like 255 is the safe tire. 275 is out of question. I wonder if a 265 would fit with a roll.

My offsets are listed in my signature. For sure that 9.0 et45 fr setup would need a 7ish mm spacer for the wheel itself to clear the strut, then you have to watch tired design and brand to see how much it might stick out past the wheel.
Tons of us run 9.5et45 rears. When the suspension compresses or is lowered is where you get into trouble. My fenders were rolled, pulled, trimmed, etc. and I had to go to max factory camber to run 255/30/19 PSS's and it still rubbed too much to carry passengers. I did the rear hub mod so now I have around 10mm more space.

8.5 ET40 is perfect for the front. Anything above a 42 and you will need to space it back to a 42 to clear the strut.

I'd say you'd be better off with the 18x9 ET45 as you can run a spacer. 18x8.5ET35 will be too aggressive on the fender side and you can't go backwards from that.
Saw you on my other thread so you already know, but I'll be going an 18x9 ET39 which is exactly the same on the inside as an 18x8.5ET45 (the generally accepted offset by Apex, VMR etc) but is 12mm more aggressive on the outside. Will need some decent negative camber and fender work to make the 255 fit but can hopefully be done. If it ends up being too close to the strut with a 255 tyre I can just add a 2-5mm spacer as needed which are still hubcentric. Generally only 5mm or less or 10mm or more spacers are hubcentric on our cars so it's best to stick to those to be on the safe side. I found this tool online which I found very helpful when selecting rim sizes and offsets. http://www.1010tires.com/Tools/Wheel-Offset-Calculator#

But I expect I'm going to have to do some serious shaving of the bumper tab which I am ok with. I'm already rolled and running 2.5º negative camber but I'll probably increase that to 3º. Maybe I'll need some more aggressive rolling of the fenders too but who knows. Worse case scenario, I buy some 15mm wider aftermarket 1M replica front fenders. That might even allow me to a squeeze a 265/35 on there.
