They are attached with double sided tape. They are plastic. So if you put something thin behind them, like fishing line or dental floss, you can cut through the tape and the numbers come right off. Then you need a little Goo Gone (sold at Walmart around here) on a paper towel to clean off the residual. Then a little wax to protect the paint you just uncovered.

A little correction, "Goo Gone" on a MF (Microfibre) towel if you love your paint so much. But paper towel does works.
Also, fishing line or dental floss pulling little away from your car paint could give you zero scratch. Kcc

worth noting:
use "Goo Gone" (citrus-based, plastic bottle), NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH "Goof Off" (highly corrosive to paint, comes in a small metal tin) |

Would like to emphasize for anyone doing this to use a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive behind the badge then use dental floss and get as much of it off one the first go. After popping the numbers off use your nail to get the rest of the adhesive if you have a bunch then "goof off" and micro towel for the clean up!
5-15 minute job.

^^Yes, use a hair dryer or a heat gun. I used the corner of a mirco fiber towel to snag on the edge of the badge - then start pulling it off. I had some dental floss on standby... but it was not needed.
