Loving my valentine!!
Man.. Just snagged a brand new valentine v1 from craigslist for $225. Lets go!!
2 different spots around me are 25mph zones and i usually fly down them at 60-70 but around 5-7 the boys are on high alert! I drove down both experimenting with which position would give me the clearest signal n man this thing is on point.. I used the hard wire kit and connected it to my armrest cig port & ran it up the a-pillar. I ended up mounting it above my rearview on the right side of its center. Beautiful reception and the v1 was on point with the arrows and even gave me the sideways reading for a sec when i turned after passing them at the next light. And what was great was i got a reading of 1 bar on one of them so far off i thought it was a false alarm, and bit by bit the bars got longer and there he was. Then it was the same way after he was behind me.. I drove for some time before the beeping stopped! For v1 owners.. "L" advanced logic mode ftw!!

Looks goods, I just returned my Escort Max for replacement. The unit did not alert me to a Lidar ahead. At least the Trooper gave me a warning. If the replacement Max does not work better I am going back to the Valentine.

Yeah, the Escort GPS is nice, but you can't beat the range or arrows of the V1.

Radar is not an immunity card. It wont pick up slow moving traffic or pedestrians...

That particular spot is 25mph because they're always doing (unnecessary) construction on it, and its on back streets before a bridge. Its industrial and you will not see any pedestrian walking there, ever. After 7 you can consider it a damn airplane takeoff strip. The few times i have done the limit, i held up the line & was horned to death. Its a short strip n yeah cuz the car is tuned it can make it to 60-70 before the light.. So no, im not doing 60-70 in a metro/suburban area swirving around playing kids smart guy. I do have a 4 yr old and am more sensitive to those things.. I know my town just like u know yours and i know where i can have fun n where i can't.. Leave it to "daddy" forum guys to take the fun out of anything.. Lol

A couple of question for you guys....I own a V1 that I purhcased with my first automobile about 13 yrs ago.
1. Has the technology remained the same. Meaning can I plug my old V1 and still expect the cops to have the same Ka and laser signals? 2. I live between 2 states where radar is illegal (DC & VA). Is there any way cops can detect the V1? Because correct me if im wrong, but the penalty is that they will confiscate the detector and mostl likely issue a fine. I have not used my detector for some time (never in the 1) because I work in Northern VA, where state troopers are notorious for being revenue generators so I would not like to piss them off further with having an illegal device in my car. |

https://store.valentine1.com/upgrades The V1 is a great unit, but I live in NoVA where radar detectors are illegal and the V1 is highly detectable to police radar detector detectors (AMHIK). I now run an Escort Redline radar detector and drive right by police all the time w/o being detected. https://www.escortradar.com/store/ES...-Detector.html The Escort Redline is probably about as good as the Valentine One at detecting radar & laser, they're both good, but the V1 is easily detected while the Redline is pretty much undetectable. I believe there are also a few other undetectable detectors available. Last edited by dm135is; 10-02-2013 at 05:57 PM.. |

Not familiar with the Escort Max but if it's a normal RD, it would never protect you against LIDAR. You need proper set of jammers for that, ie Laser Interceptors.

Exactly. The Max is a conventional radar/laser detector. I knew this before I had one hardwired a couple of weeks ago. By the physical nature of LIDAR, by the time a detector "detects" the narrow laser beam focused on your car, law enforcement already has your speed. If you are running a Max and don't want a LIDAR ticket (or any ticket for that matter), you still need to apply all of the best practices you've learned over the years to avoid tickets. I was painted by LIDAR on the freeway last week while I was going a few mph over the speed limit... the Max told me I was being painted. That's about all I can ask of it.
