Passenger window down and won't come up!

Just happened, it wound down itself and won't come up. It made some bad noises when I tried and now nothing. I'm guessing the motor/solenoid is dead.

Time to find that extended warranty booklet!

Same thing happened to me in my Audi, it turned out to be the window regulator. I got one on eBay for $60 delivered.

If it makes a noise when you press the switch then it's not the motor. Most likely window regulator.

Btw most warranty will cover it.

have you tried disconnecting battery for 5 mins?

worth a try at least.

@bmwlady's windows got stuck UP with no real bad noise and that fixed that particular one

I could try that I guess, I'm suspect it's more serious. Rang 2 dealers and earliest is 23rd, but northshore will let me drop it in Monday, and leave it for 48 hours.

Give Flinchy's idea a go

Method - disconnect the battery and step/pump the brakes until all power is gone from the car. This will reset the ECU and possibly fix any malfunctions that may have occurred (hopefully the power windows)

Every time one of our cars has been left at North Shore it's come back with something suspicious. Loose wheel bolts, scratched paint, tyres pumped to 50 psi.. Shouldn't take it there IMO, their service department is garbage.

But about your window, the battery method worked for my car too. Window got stuck down and did exactly what 7smurfs said and it fixed itself.

Nah, no good. It makes whirring noises up and down for a few goes, but no glass movement.

Bummer.

North shore bmw fitted me in quickly and it's sorted. I'm out of pocket 30mins labour, and the warranty paid $500for the regulator and labour.
