Jack Point Spacer

So did anyone actaully ever find a part number for a spacer to put in the jack points? Or is the plastic part strong enough?

If your jack has a rounded lift point and you use it on the square jack point, it will create an indentation in the plastic square jack point. My jack point under my car is made of hard plastic. I know it is plastic because one of the corner was broken so I can tell it was plasitc.

Yeah I'm trying to avoid the plastic breaking b/c I do have a round jack lift point. I called the dealership and they said the plastic is designed to fit the circular lift point. I smeel a little bs there. From my rough measurements looks like it's 1.5 inches by 2.5 inches by 3/4" deep.

Is there an adapter that you can place in here?

Triton: As I mentioned in other jack thread, when Bavarian19 and I, did the PMB install, he used his jack lift without damage. I had the same reservations as everyone else here but he managed to pull it off. Having said that it should be better to have the receptacle reinforced either by home-made solutions (wooden blocks etc) or specific OEM parts...

Just remember the inner width & length are smaller because its beveled.

You could always buy the OEM screw jack and take off its adapter, or just use the jack itself

I have a $150 floor jack already from craftsman that I'd really like to get some use out of. Also, anyone know the size needed for the lug nuts for the wheels for a rachet wrench? I know it's 130 Nm

I searched for quite awhile, the part # given was for the replacement plastic jack point piece. If you've got a crasftsman with the circular part, you know it's not flat so doubtful that you won't do any damage to the cheap a$$ plastic piece. Mine cut it up pretty bad, but I was so pissed at the sh$tty design I didn't care.

I've since just cut a piece of 2x4 to stick in there and then I jack against that. Doesn't seem muy safe ... I can just see the block of wood slipping laterally and the plastic not able to keep the weight.

just wondering, what's the reason of having those plastic things where the jack points are?

The OEM jack fits snuggly within them.

I was told they were for positioning the lift arms of the large car lifts.

Just a guess but I think it is there to locate the OEM jack at a point on the understructure that can bear the weight of being jacked. Otherwise you'd get people trying to jack up the car by the mudflaps.

It's there to encorage you to buy the crappy set BMW has so that it all fits. If they were doing it to really help out, it would be a solid piece of flat plastic to indicate where to jack the car and not have metal on metal contact.
