Quoted out ~$2400 to replace the door. I was expecting a lot more than that. The door itself is just under $600 and the rest is obviously labor and the paint cost.

The at-fault guy is cooperating and being cool about the whole thing, which is a plus. I'll make sure to build my own parking garage at work with 6-foot, steel-reinforced walls so no one can ding my car again.

It is scary fast. Always boggles my mind why seemingly the majority of people on here feel the need to do everything they can to add more power.

Sounds like you're enjoying post break-in! No fair. Mine spends most its time in stop and go LA traffic.

Also, when do you officially put the winter wheels on? I imagine that will be a somewhat sad day.

winter tires are never a sad day, greg! i LOVE the winter! they'll be going on in the next few weeks

i have no desire to 'mod' to get more power.....more than enough for me! one of my criteria for this car would be that it would have to be good 'out of the box'...i think the 135is definitely fulfils the criteria!

I wasn't poopooing winter, I just imagine the grip, handling, and looks will go down once winter tires go on, but the whole concept is quite foreign to me. Actually, I'll say the grip, handling, and performance will go down on days where there is no snow, slush, ice, freezing rain, etc, and may be days you wish you had your normal tires and 313s on there. You'd have to fight me to get my 313s off! And I'd fight to the death.

In terms of "modding" I never really know how to assess the reliability of the N55 based on the forum cause it seems like the majority of people on here have tunes, aftermarket this and that, which I assume takes its toll on the car.

Wishing I could leave work and go drive my car,

you're right about grip and handling going down.....but yknow driving in winter is a total adventure. sometimes you will feel like you are on an arctic adventure.....the lack of grip is actually what creates the tension/good times. unfortunately the OTHER drivers are the big problem as you want them to have grip and they don't!! lol. I am putting BLACK M68 wheels on the car with hardcore Nokian Hakkapaliita R2 winter tires.....should be good times!

Say you have to go out for lunch and get out of there!!!!

Never driven in snow, but most my family lives in Portland, Oregon, and so my brother puts his studded tires on ever winter cause he goes snowboarding every weekend. For us "warmer weather climate" people it is a real trip to be in cities where you hear cars with studded tires rolling up.

I saw the preview of your new wheels when you got them, will be interesting to see them on the car as those black wheels will certainly give it a different look.

I'd rather just quit my crappy job and spend my days driving around aimlessly. Maybe next week. Can't driving a 135is be a full-time job? The pay sucks, but fringe benefits are excellent. And don't let me order blacklines as I was looking the other day.

Being from Georgia, I can't say that I've ever heard this noise you speak of!

Interesting, I didn't know you could even get the tri-color stitching for the parking brake and shifter boot.

Was that your car's post break-in period present?

Exactly. Insane, and a hell of a lot of fun! The Michelin PSSs are now broken in and gripping the road better than I thought would be possible. Kind of breaks my heart to think about putting a winter 215/45R17 setup on the car for 4-5 months out of the year!

If you stay in the gas for more than a few seconds, you are in "go straight to jail" territory. Feeling the pull of the motor isn't something you can do often or for very long...

Glad you're enjoying them. Grip aside, they just make for such a better and more compliant ride and the way the car should have come. Takes all the harshness out of it. And don't worry, you can live vicariously through me as mine will stay on year round. =)

Don't forget your CF trim, too Rick! =P

We may have to start a collection for you otherwise you may go broke. BMW sure charges an arm and a leg for all their lil CF bits.

You can get them made from here:

http://www.redlinegoods.com/BMW1shiftboot.php

they have a ton of options (stitching, material, stripes, etc).

@rikMsport , you can do a multiquote so you don't have to post multiple times.

@morningscifi the wheel, shifter, and ebrake boots look great together!

It's amazing, and yes I did the install. Using the DIY from here it took me about 10 minutes including checking again after every step. Super easy.

I got them from Bimmian. I considered the blue to match my interior but obviously ended up (happily) with this. Also an easy install but you have to sort of bastardize your shift boot anchor or order a new one.

Yep. It was the cheapest price I could find at the time.

If/When you do replace it: the only "issue" I had was the ambiguous description of the angle that you need to press with the torx driver at in order to pop the airbag loose. It's more of a 90 degrees pushed in rather than pulling back towards you while sitting in the drivers seat. (if that makes sense)
