This link: http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/mmm.html?map=wave

shows wave forecasts . . . I wonder if our ships will skirt the heavy seas, going South then West, or will simply head through the heavier weather? At least the area of "off the scale" wave heights is north of where they need to pass . . . .

I think I will request that my next bimmer be delivered by U-boat.

Thirty foot waves also require Courage, if you get my drift. . .

Drifting, as in "no power, floating like a cork"?

The way that I look at it, the possibility of a "Courage" happening again this soon is almost nil. Even so, there's still plenty of time to build another and get it to me by 3/22.

Lasty, because you know I'm evil, I leave you with one thought :

I have been a boater since I was a kid. 30' waves would me make shi* no matter what boat/ship I was on. I just hope BMW doesn't spend all of March trying to put my car back together.
I have been in 8'-10' waves on Lake Michigan. :eyebulge: then then ...on a 30' yacht!

Yes, it is certainly somthing else to be on a sailboat out in the bay with 10' seas. You wonder sometimes if it will right itself back up since it was already listing because of the sail/high wind. It certainly makes life interesting and exciting

I will tell you right now being as I am in the Coast Guard...30 foot waves are rediculous. If the Emden is remotely smart they would just wait it out. If they left already, eh its going to be a hell of a ride. I don't know much about the stability of that ship but considering the conditions they would most likely be in the 20-40 degree rolls....regularly. I'm sure the ship and the equipment holding the cars down is adequate for taking such rolls, but man that is going to be one hurting crew if they venture out in rough seas like that.

After the Courage incident, just a few weeks ago, I'm pretty sure BMW won't be too upset if the crew of these vessels waits it out a bit. Vesseltracker still shows the Maersk Wind moored off of Zeebrugge Belgium.

if anyone has seen the show The Deadliest Catch on Discovery channel, they encounter 20' seas at the most. A rogue wave capsized a few of those boats at around a 35' wave. :eyebulge:

Agreed. Great show. Those boats on the show are toys compared to these vessels though. The Maersk Wind is 590' x105'. The boats on the show are 80' to 130', and have a 25' beam. You could fit quite a few of them on the Maersk Wind.

I did wonder if they would wait it out, but I guess not.

Based upon the last reported position of the Emden, off the coast of Spain, either she wasn't planning on coming straight to the US, of she has diverted South to avoid the 30' seas for 18'-20' seas.

Still, I would be in the zone.
