Why the PAM320 as opposed to the PAM312? I prefer the look of the 312 without the additional GMT needle. Looks cleaner to me. I went for the PAM328 which is the metal strap version of the 312 as it is more exclusive (1000 pieces, mine is 829/1000) and I bought leather strap separately.

Haha, believe it or not, replying to your post on that thread is actually on my iPhone Reminders! Been really crazy hectic at work - 11.13pm and I just got home. Have never had a chance to take some proper pics - have one I took for Sparoz on my phone!

To be honest I never looked at the full range - I prefer a simple face so 312 sounds the goods. I saw the 320 when I was home last time and fell in love - Darwin is not the best place to be following up watch choices! In Singapore next month so will have proper look. Is the metal strap swappable with the brown leather one?

Rolex and Omega sell as many watches as they can. There is a reason why you can't get a steal on a PAM when you buy one. Try walking into a dealer and asking for a 320 or 111 etc. You'll be lucky if they have 1. Plenty of Seamaster's and Sub's around off the rack whenever you walk into the store.

If you are out an about, far more people who are into watches have commented on my PAM's or U-Boat than an Omega or Rolex in my experience.
Definitely agreed. I wear a Seamaster everyday and I don't really get much comments on it - I really like that about it. PAM is definitely my next one - love the look of them and I rarely see anyone running about in them in Darwin.

I almost bought this instead of the 1M... my wife made me choose...

And this is a perfect match for the VO 1M...

Movements are everywhere - it needs to have something else unique before I am interested in.

My Seamaster Titanium - Weighs just 111 grams, discreet, 41mm diam' and comfortably fits under a shirt cuff. Can read it at a glance, especially at night.
Moderate cost so I'm not afraid to wear it anywhere and if it cops a scratch I won't feel that the whole watch is ruined. Scratch a $10,000+ watch and I guarantee you won't wear it till it is (expensively) repaired.

I too am looking for my first good watch, so far I have only looked at Tag watches (grand Carrera).

Quick question, are all higher end mechanical watches as thick as Tag? I found it too thick to fit easily under the cuff of my business shirt, which if spending that much on a watch would be annoying.

No not all are thick Michael. There are some good watch makers out there that make automatic 'thin' models. Like JaegerLeCoultre, even IWC's can be quite thin.

Depends on how much you want to spend though... Usually thin ones are expensive as it's harder to make. Also depends on the look you are after, the sporty/diver/pilot type watches can be quite bulky.

I not familiar with U-Boat watches, or even heard of them before but they do look pretty darn nice.

I'm looking forward to the day that I can pick up a big pilot.. been my favourite for a few years now.
Current daily is a two tone auto tag carrera. I picked up the matching set for my wife and I as a wedding present to ourselves so it's one I will never part with.

If you want thin my personal recommendatins are:

Budget < $5K- IWC Portofino
Budget $5-10K- Jaeger Le Coultre Reverso or Master series- The latter even has an ultra-thin model, Cartier Santos Dumont
Budget >$10K- Patek Phillippe Calatrava series, Breguet or Vacheron Constantin.
