I have an annoying plastic rattle coming from the back seats, anyone know of a good area to start having a look?

I have solved it after 12 months of dealer "warranty doesn't cover rattles" versus my persistence.Started on passenger side A pillar dash , volume and frequency varied with temperature and type of driving.Spread to both sides.
Solution cost 50 cents and makes BMW service look like idiots.
Inserted small rubber discs that are attached to the bottom of chairs between windscreen and dash where the A pillars join dash.
Cracking noise went away.
Dealer then reallocated the same rubber discs- they said they were the perfect size in the same place but under the dash where it meets the windscreen- removed trim secured by tape etc and voila.
I wonder if I should send a bill to BMW for the intellectual property but I suppose they would not even stump up for the 50 c rubber disks I bought.

Plastic popping noise

the noise comes from the trim on the A pillar, where it meets the dash. mine does it on the passenger side. i need to have it removed, and silicone/mastic beads put behind it then replace it. That should stop it.

I have never seen anyone hang a hat on concrete before LOL

Very very slight issue with the hot weather "Pop" in my 2012 128. I've found using a really top quality sun shade in front window when parked on sunny days made problem almost go away. No other problems at all since buying the car so I'm not going to worry about it

Two birds, with one hat. OR something like that...

Interesting info about the popping. I'll check mine out. Although, I don't even notice it really anymore.

wow guys thought I was the only one with this problem...

This only happens for me with the AC on I was under the impression that it was a problem with the vent to allow fresh air into the cabin on the auto recirc.

It is not a normal sound very loud "pop / bang"

My car is due for its first scheduled oil change and maint I am going to bring it up to the SA and see what his thoughts are...

I am a bit sketched out about having them pull my entire dash apart :/

Ah well...

We have had our 'vert for about 3 months now, the first time this happened, I checked the windshield for a crack because I was sure a rock had hit it. Now, after living with the car for a while, I noticed it more frequently.

I hardly ever drive the car since it is my wife's but I would agree with some previous comments, my car was almost $50,000 and we shouldn't have to deal with this issue.

I just had this issue repaired. It should not be so widespread, but it is.

I started to notice this after I installed my new suspension so I figured it was from that.

Kinda sounds like a dent in a water bottle popping back out. (if that makes sense)

Anyone have pictures of the crack or these rubber discs?

What did they repair? Did they tell you what the issue is?

Never had these issues before, reminds me of the crumbling interior of the early e36 models.

Add one more of us to the list. The loud popping in my baby Bimmer started in the first year. It happens when I first start to cold/heat the car up during extreme temperatures, and with the chassis flex over bumpers and in hard cornering.

The service advisor at the dealership said he'd seen this in the six a few years back and told me that a re-torque of the strut bolts would fix it. It was popping again as soon as I drove it off the lot.

I haven't tried the insulation on the A pillar yet. I know someone that tried adding insulation to the dash with no luck, but not sure where the insulation was actually placed.

Honestly, I'm less concerned about the popping noise, and more that something else is being stressed and one day I will find a huge crack somewhere!
