Peeling clear coat
Anyone having problems with the clear coat peeling off? My mirrors on my 2009 135i have almost no clear coat left on them. I also have several areas on the body where the clear coat has begun to peel off. Is this a common problem?

Did you buy the car used? Maybe the previous owner had some work done that didn't go well?
My last car had peeling clear coat on the front bumper, it showed up years after I bought it (new). Looking at it in the right light I could see a small license plate shaped indentation in it. The dealership or shipping company had a little accident and whatever body shop was used didn't sand it down before spraying over it. |

No, I purchased the car new. Wish I could say that I was driving so fast that the paint was peeling off but that isn't the case. I think it is just poor quality.

Are you able to post a few photos? Can you verify that the paint is original and not a respray performed at some point? Any and all clear coat will fail after being exposed to the elements and sunlight for some time. Did you ever wax or protect the areas that are peeling?

You may be right that it wasn't ever touched up, but like I said, my car was new as well and someone (dealer or shipper) had indeed sprayed some clear on it.
