for the M3,
Akrapovic - Slip-On Titanium Exhaust System : $3,465
Akrapovic - Evolution Titanium Exhaust System : $5,795
(from EAS)

So considering the low production of the 1M, we'll probably only get the choice of one system (most likely the more expensive one), not to mention priced higher.

I'm gonna ball-park $6000+

Looking forward to the Akrapovic!

But: Since they're doing an exhaust for the 135i that will also fit the 1M (read that somewhere), won't the 135 then sound exactly the same?

If the price range is anything like the price range of their motorcycle exhausts then this thing will be EXPENSIVE (similar to Eisenmann prices)....but it WILL look and sound good..

$6K is too aggressive of a guess, why would it actually cost more than the one for the M3, which is even more complicated, has more materials, etc.? And they would be pricing themselves out if the exhausts costs 15% of the car. We sre not talking about an exotic car here.

A lot will depend on the Euro conversion, which is not helping one bit, but I'd venture it has to be way less than $6K, prolly half that, if they want to have meaningful sales.

Here is an exhaust company which is right on par with Akra. Look through their offerings, which are a piece of art IMO. Lambo, Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley, high end Audis. You will be hard pressed to find an exhaust higher than $6K (with the twin-sound Lambo exhaustr being the exception).

At the end of the day, the end cans of the 1///M are fairly primitive relative to what is required to analyze, design, construct, fabricate, and deliver a complete exhaust for the above cars. If the buyer base ^^^ ain't paying more than $6K on $200+K cars, who thinks buyers of a $47K car will be paying $6K on an exhaust...

$6K is stupid expensive for an exhaust. I thought the new M3 Performance exhaust was insanely priced at $4K...

I think that was just a guess about the $6k price tag for the 1M. I think it will be much cheaper than that. It's a smaller motor and turbo charged. Again, this is my "guess" but, I'm sure you will be able to choose cat back exhaust or from the down pipes back - when the time comes.

Ouch! In that case, I think if the 1M exaust is in that neighborhood, you might as well stick with the stock? Stock sounds good too.... Not sure it would be worth $5-6K just for a 12hp increase and a slightly different sound note...

Best bang for the buck, and likely sound, would be to stay stock as far as rear cans, and just replace the midpipe with MadDad or the like. So far it has been speculated that it is just the end quad that is different on the 1///M, all else same as the 135i, so the aftermarket midpipe for $500 or thereabouts would give you some nice sound, modest gains, and weight reduction.

I would not spend anything more than $1200 for a exhaust; and beside, it sounds about the same as other 135 after market exhaust sound clips (like Berk, AA, and my aFe).

You either have too much free cash or are lacking in the common sense department to spend 6k on an exhaust system on a ~50k car.

I don't know if that is true. Judging by the undercarriage shots from the Chicago Auto Show, the 1M looks like it will have much better flow than the 135i. I don't see any crush bends.

$2.8k-$7.5k for their M3 axelback exhaust systems, connecting-pipes are another $600......

Akrapovic axelback w/connecting-pipes for M3 is $3.5k, full system from headers back is $5.7k

Seems similar pricing to me!
