CDV Delete necessary on post 2011 makes?

I drove a non modified 2009 N54 135i and yes the clutch feel was hopeless IMO, I just couldn't feather the clutch like I'm used too, especially on slight inclines.

Then I test drove a new 2012 135i at the dealer and the clutch felt normal, shifting was fine, did BMW resolve the CD issue in their newer makes?

I have a 2013 and I feel like it drives the way you described the 09. I rely mostly on engine noise when taking off because this clutch is so hard to feel the breaking point combined with the electronic throttle that is sometimes hesitant. If my music is up loud and I can't hear the engine ill most likely jerk a bit when going from a stop or incline.

Oh dear...I will just have to purchase the replacement part from burger and judge when I take delivery, but one thing for certain I wont put up with a vague feeling clutch.

When will your car be delivered? I picked up mine just last month in December so it's not broken in yet. About only half way. Maybe it will feel better after I break it in all the way I don't know but I will probobly wind up modifying the cdv. I wonder what was different about the 2012 you drove. Was it a certified pre owned and could have possibly had the mod done?

BMW has chose to put these dam CDV's in every manual car they make. Even M cars. (there was some hot debate on this even for the e9x M3. But I believe all of the cars have them). Sometimes they change the amount of the restriction inside the CDV. But otherwise all of the cars have them. Best thing to do is take yours out and inspect it. I bet you have a venturi/jet inside of your CDV.

Acording to RealOEM.com all 135i's and M1's use the same CDV valve... #21526764872

Actually this very CDV is used in quite a few BMW's...

Bottom line is take your CDV out - you will be much happier without it!!

April delivery... I doubt I will wait for break-in, Dackelone has confirmed 2013 model use the same part so off with the cdv on with burger's.

I'm sure its been answered before, but do you have to buy the fake CDV, or can the two hoses be connected together after you remove the CDV?

You can just connect the 2 hoses back together, no need for the BMS replacement part. Unless you're worried about warranty stuff obviously.

Why wouldn't you modify the oem cdv??...it takes literally 2 seconds with a screw driver to get rid of the reduction valve in there...then pop it back in. No way for any tech to tell if its been modified. Total time it takes to jack up the car, pop out the valve, modify it, then pop it back in, bleed the clutch...20 minutes.

I can verify that the 2013 135i has the restricted clutch valve; the hole in it is very small compared to the one in the modified version I have in it now.

The stock feel on the 2013 was much better than the stock feel of a 2009 I test drove but still not good enough to leave as-is.

+1. Why wouldn't you buy a new CDV from your dealer($10) and knock out the inner venturi! It is soooo simple and then there is no way your dealer can bitch about any future clutch/trans problems. The CDV restriction/venturi just pops right out.

I used a 3mm punch and small hammer... but you could also get by with just a simple small flat blade screw driver.

a before shot of the cdv venturi restrictor...
