Production of 135i coupe, how long will they make them?

Hi!

As stated above, I´m contemplating a little in to the future. I might change my current M5 for a 135i coupe. As I´m planning this a year into the future or thereabouts, I´ve been looking for answers without results.

So, does anyone know when production of the 1 series coupe stops? The 1 M runs though this year so I´d gather that the normal coupe runs through next year? I´ve asked a couple of dealers without result. The forums normally have much better info then the dealers, hence my question to you guys.

Thanks,

G

You are correct in that the dealers have little info, and what they have is often skewed towards what ever spin will sell them more cars today. Considering that the F20 is already set to go in Europe, and the coupes typically come in the second year or later of a model cycle. I would think the next version of the coupe is due as a 2013 or 14 at the latest. My concern is that they're not likely to have six cylinder engines in the 300hp bracket as BMW will likely get that level of hp from a higher mileage, hyper tuned, turbo 4.

I agree that the future is in smaller better MPG engines, but I see the coupe being made for years to come. The 1 series is a HUGE success in Europe, although it is as I stated: A smaller better MPG car for Europes high gas tax economy- Something that I'm sure will leak into the US soon. I'd personally love to see a high powered turbo diesel in the states with good MPG!

I saw a post elsewhere stating Production of the 2012 coupe is slated to continue through May of 2012 if I recall correctly...not sure what will happen for MY2013.

That would seem to be so, in which case, the OP would likely be looking at getting an order in for a build before the end of March 2012 to guarantee getting a 135i built to your spec....??

Otherwise, you'll be likely waiting for the 2 Series to come a year or so later.

We've been hearing talks to MY 2013 being the last. But we haven't even seen coupe prototypes running around so who knows how long it will be.

If you believe typical 7 year BMW cycles it would be 2014 for the new version

I'm in the same boat sorta. I am trying to find out any info on future production to decide when I should purchase/lease my next 1er.

Also, you guys are right about the dealers knowing absolutely nothing. One sales person at my dealer didn't even know what the 1M was, pathetic. Other than that though, the dealer's customer service is beyond belief so I let that slip go.

I hope production info comes out soon from Dan, Scott, or an official release.

The 2 Series coupes and verts will have the six cyl options as I've read an interview here in the UK from a senior BMW man in regard to questions about why the new F20 1 Series still retained rwd, and he stated it was because of the need for this new platform to retain six cyl engines for the US market.

I think what you'll see is a turbo 4 cyl engine replacing the current n/a 128i (228i(?) and the retention of the N55 for a 135i replacement as the 235i.
