To be honest it feels "mushier" even with the lower profile in the front. These are very beefy tires with a thick shoulder. Road noise has gone down as well, but I mean my PS2s were on the metal belts in the back.

The bumps seem be dampened more, with a lower tone. Until the backs rub.

Does anyone know if they plan on making 285/30 19 in the near future?

If only the pss came in 285's. So its pss with 275 or re11 or other alternative with 285. Called michelin to ask about 285. That was a joke. Clueless csr.

Indeed it would be, and not coincidentally, that is the same exact setup on the M3 GTS which of course rides on our stock rims (Sport Cups or Pirellis).

Maybe we can all initiate a petition for Michelin to start producing 285/30/19s!

Tempted by a set of HRE R40s from an e90 M3.

18x9.5 +19 F 265/35/18 Hankook RS-3
18x10.5 +22 R 285/35/18 Hankook RS-3

Will they fit? I would rather not do any fender work. I will likely add camber plates/ coilovers down the road. The offsets seems somewhat aggressive compared to the arc-8s...

Still riding on the stock wheels/tires and notice the rubbing on the oil cooler vent or whatever already with the stock 235s. This would be an expensive test fit...Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance.

I can't comment on the HRE setup I've got those tires on ARC-8s. There is no rubbing and they work fantastically. You can see the setup in my avatar. Harold at HP Autoworks set up me - he's great to deal with.

I'm leaning towards the arc-8s mainly because of the price and it seems they fit very well. The HREs have a slightly more aggressive offset even though they are the same size.

Do you daily drive the RS-3s?

I am daily driving them now although it is pretty warm in Southern California. Around 50 degrees or below they have very little grip. The tires need some heat in them. On mountain roads the amount of grip is really staggering! The tires also have no emphasis on ride quality so it's a little harsher than the stock Michelins. When it cools off, I will definitely switch back to the stock setup. Overall I'm really happy with them.

Yeah, I have heard they are less than ideal in the cold. Thanks for your reply, leaning towards the RS3 once I pick up some 18s.

They are really super sticky once warmed up! They also have a much more progressive and predictable breakaway behavior once you push them beyond the limits of grip.

If it's raining however, the Michelins are fantastic. I haven't tried the RS3s in the rain, but I've heard they are not very good at all.

Yeah, I wouldn't drive the RS-3s in the rain if you can help it. Horrible wet weather tire.

I have an opportunity to buy my friend's track setup off his e46 M3.

He has a square set of SSR Competitions, size is 18x9.5 et37. I know the optimum square Apex setup is 18x9.5 et35 so I'm not sure if the 2mm will nix this setup. I could run a spacer, if so what should I get? Can I buy a 2mm hub-centric spacer?

The tires are currently mounted on 275/35/18 RA1s. I believe these will not fit on the fronts but if the experts could chime in it would be much appreciated.

thanks

Amit

Not sure but they will probably rub. Most people I know successfully run 265s in the front. I have heard of a few people doing it though.

I saw for sale a set of CCW Classics in
18x10 +25
18x12 +25

Cann you guys advise if these would fit properly with 255 front and 285 rears?

These wheels are sweet, they have 3" lips and would go well with the car

front should work... wow those are massive rears... and I think 285 might be too thin for a 12 " wheel? check out the tire mfr recommendations.

One of the local guys tried to fit an E46 wheel setup for the track but the wheels did not clear the brakes on the 1M.

Could be just caliper to spoke clearance as there should be plenty of caliper to inner barrel clearance.

1. Rears fit fine. Fronts would seriously rub.

So, I am ordering an additional 2 18x8.5 MT1s to use as fronts on the 1M for track use. I am planning to run 255/35 fronts with 275/35 rears on the 1M.

This car is balanced from the factory, it doesn´t need a square setup to reduce understeer. I tracked it last Saturday, was fantastic on the PS2s (but it eats them immediately).

I just test fit a 285/30/18 BF Goodrich R1 up front. They stick out from under the wheel arches like the 275/35 continentals... no more rubbing than already from my short cruise around the block ......

Quick summary:

The rear end grip is just ridiculous. I can dead hook 1st gear from any speed with a WOT smash. I've never felt the car pull that hard before. 2nd just slams you in, no chirping or squirming.

I need a vbox now. I feel I can get a pretty damn good 60' with this setup.

The rears look extremely beefy. They WILL slightly rub (scary sound) on a large bump, or hard acceleration on an uneven surface.

I'm telling you, this thing HOOKS now! I didn't realize the low gears would be so strong feeling with the extra traction.

The fronts are lower profile but wider, so there is a bigger fender gap. Cosmetic turn-off for me. But the car will have coil-overs one day, so no biggie. The fronts BARELY fit when you turn full lock. Basically, the edge of the tire just barely touches the plastic near the vents at full lock. The car tracks a bit more, but feel EXTREMELY planted now. It's almost hard to make the rear end loose, so I probably built in a bit more understeer, but more total overall grip.

These tires are very "beefy" and there is apparent reduction of road noise and bump harshness. Like I said they track or wander more, but I'd like to get the alignment setup too for this setup.

I got this combo basically to improve acceleration ability at autocross and on the street. From my testing so far on the street, it is WAY quicker through 1st and 2nd gear. I even seem to have stopped getting wheelhop. You can feel the clutch just suck the tranny and engine together with a good hook.

Pics and thread coming later!
Did the car eventually start to track better (and wander less)?
