CIP (Progman) 21.0 released

DO not have the list of fixes yet. I am montitoring several times per day.

SI B 09 09 06
Programming/Coding Explanation March 2006
Technical Service

SUBJECT
Release Notes Progman V21.0

MODEL
All

SITUATION
Progman V21.0 has been released. Certain errors may occur during installation or usage.

CAUSE
Software error

COMPLAINT
The following issues are currently known:

1) "Back" button is missing after the "Change" button in the menu bar has been selected.

2) An incorrect CIP version may be displayed on the "Online update" screen after a JETStream update.

3) Once the installation has been completed, the subsequent reboot of the SSS R1 may not be carried out correctly.

4) It may no longer be possible to use the GT1 after selecting "Update software".

5) In some cases, no status display (white screen) appears for a few minutes if a measures plan is cancelled.

6) After successful programming, the final report shows incorrect number of remaining programming attempts for the affected control unit.

7) "The SSS installation data could not be determined. (Code=45124, Msg=45042)." is displayed.

8) No FASTA data has been transferred for a long period of time.

9) Individual coding/programming process stages (e.g. Clear fault memory, full coding) may be displayed in the final report with error code 14031.

10) The session does not start from the GT1 terminal. An error message ("Bad request") appears instead of the "Continue" button.

11) E36: The last digit is not displayed when entering numbers using the on screen key pad.

12) E36 to E53: Errors are shown in the final report. Information about the affected control unit is missing.

13) E53: The buttons for the following retrofits are missing in Progman: Seat belt reminder, and DVD eject lock.

14) E60 / E90: Reading and writing of individual data (navigation destinations, phone books, etc.) as part of CCC programming does not work.

15) E65: Red X is displayed next to CAS Alignment after DME replacement.

16) E65: CKM data may not be restored after programming.

17) E65: In isolated cases, the DME control unit for 12-cylinder engines aborts programming with error code 2082 - Clear flash. This behavior concerns control units with HW* number 7537117 and earlier (integration level 0312500 to 0503810). The control unit no longer responds.

18) E90: Programming of the radio (RAD2 control unit) aborts with error 2020 (CoApi), and coding with CoApi 1000.

19) E90: After programming the DXC control unit (all-wheel drive vehicles), the subsequent automatic coding procedure may abort with CoApi error 1000.

20) E90: FZD programming aborts with error 2089.

21) E90: JBE programming aborts with "Error 2089 - error changing programming mode"

PROCEDURE

1) Button is hidden behind the "Minimize" button, no workaround.

2) Ignore the incorrect CIP version displayed.

3) In the event of an error, reboot by pushing and holding in the SSS power button.

4) Proceed as follows: 1. Disconnect the GT1 cable and wait until an error message notifies you of the loss of connection. 2. Reconnect the cable. 3. Update the SSS list. 4. Select the SSS again and end the session in the usual way.

5) Wait until the next screen appears. This may take a few minutes.

6) Ignore the incorrect display. Only when error 10022 (CIP) is displayed during DME programming, the control unit may no longer be programmable.

7) Select "Online service," confirm setting by pressing the "Continue" button.

8) Check all FASTA and online service settings. If everything is correct reinstall Progman. However, the existing FASTA data will be lost.

9) The process for which an error is displayed must be repeated in the event of this error.

10) The session name entered on the terminal must not contain any spaces.

11) Incorrect display can be ignored. Input is accepted correctly

12) The control unit must be determined based on the actions carried out.

13) Request central coding key (ZCS) that includes the missing retrofit through PuMA

14) Manually backup individualized data.

15) Repeat CAS calibration manually after a DME control unit is replaced since the first CAS alignment failed (red X in the final report).

16) No workaround available. This happens mostly to highly equipped vehicles.

17) Perform battery reset

18) Perform battery reset, re-program/re-code the vehicle.

19) After a power cycle, it is possible to individually code the DXC.

20) E90 vehicles produced from 12/01/04 to 12/18/04 were fitted with FZD modules with incorrect serial number format. These FZD modules cannot be programmed and must be replaced.

21) Refer to SI B090106

Additional notes:

All: A MOST connection must be established between the OP(P)S and the vehicle when programming vehicles with a MOST bus.

E64: Do not program E64 (6 Series) Convertible vehicles using Progman V21.0. The CAS software is corrupted and could cause the rear windows not to lower all the way when activating the convertible top. Fix is expected in Progman V21.01.00

E65: After programming a vehicle produced after 3/05, a battery reset must be carried out. This must be carried out until the introduction of integration level E065-06-03-510 (Progman V21.02.00).

Oil level information is lost after this procedure =>Solution: run the engine at idling speed for 20 minutes.

I'll pass. 99% of everything on my Sep 2005 build e90 is working great. It doesn't seem there will be any advantage here for me to upgrade.

I still haven't made a single update to my June 2005 build E90. The only things I'd really care to have are DRL and RDS. Is there any major difference between CIP 20 and 21? And, I mean, do I even really _need_ the updates?

Factory has had certain parts of Progman 21 since beginning of march, but other parts will only start around next week. ( Im waiting for a contact to confirm )

The factories get more updates than the dealers do.

Your VPC in the USA will most probably start updating all cars they recieve asof next week

I have a June E90 w/iDrive. Even if you don't have iDrive, I'd recommend an update to cure the soft-stop brake lurch that was in these cars.

My big hope is that in this release or the next one or even soon that Voice Command will understand American English spoken with no discernable accent (standard mid-western pronunciation) when the selected language is English.

This is the most frustrating thing in my car: some days, it works some days it doesn't.

(New) The following software errors were corrected with the release of Progman 21.00.00 (Target data Status E89x-06-03-510).

I was thinking that getting the software upgrade regardless would be a good call.

Thanks to everyone for posting these updates and keeping us informed. I dunno for whom I speak, but I greatly appreciate it!

What does CIP updating entail? Do they simply hook your car up to a computer and upload? How long does it take?

My car is being held at the VPC getting the update before it is shipped to my dealer. It was to be shipped out of the VPC on the 16th but is now moved back to the 22nd because of this.

It depends on how many updates your car needs as to how long it takes. When they upgraded mine to CIP 20, it took a whole day. I dropped it off one morning, and they installed my Sirius that day. The SA said they don't let the update to run overnight, so they started it the next morning. My car wasn't ready until 4pm, so it took pretty much the whole day to run.

I don't know if BMWs work the same way, but with other cars I have had you can speed up the reset process by holding down the brake pedal for about 30 seconds after you disconnect the battery.
