Where to get tires mounted / balanced
I'll be taking delivery of my 135i in september or october. With the winter coming up, I'll want a seperate set of Winter tires for my stock wheels. I already found what I am getting. I just want to see what places you guys use for mounting / balancing. I've had bad experiences with both Sears and Strauss. Dealer seems kind of expensive , but I may go there. Any suggestions?

I would try a perfromance wheel shop in your area. Look at the cars they are working on, and get some refereces. Make sure they use the proper kind of inside wheel weights, not the ones that stick on the outside of the rim. Talk to the service rep, tell him what you want, and see how you feel.

I would kill 2 birds with one stone - go to the dealer to change the tires and do your first, post-break-in oil change (~ 1000+ miles). Do not wait 15,000 miles for the first oil change. Yes, it may cost you a bit more than Joe's garage, but don't suddenly get cheap with your new car.

I went the dealer route. I was mounting winter RFTS and I fugured that they had a bit more experience than a place like Mavis with runflats.
+1 with ptack, I did my post breaking oil change then too, that was at about 4K miles however, right when I started using this forum. Now that i'm at 20K miles i'm going to ask for a transmission flush. My dad has done this with all of his cars at about 25K miles, but this is a more high performance auto. All of his cars run well into the 130K to 150K mile range with no transmission issues. Lifetime oil in the tranny? Maybe if you only plan on keeping the car for 4 years. |

If you're close to Fairfield, I'd recommend Eurotire on Rte. 46 (I'm sure Frank would probably say the same thing). Good diner next door, too!
