How much extra do dealers usually charge for CPO?

I'm looking at buying off a lease. The dealer is offering to take the car back, certify it and sell it back to me. Can anyone shred some light on how much extra the certification process would on average add to the residual value?

A cars.com article suggests CPO would normally add between 2-8% to the used/residual price tag where premium brands would charge more. The quote I get from my dealer is about ~10%. Inputs would be appreciated!

I believe it should cost about $2500 or so as I learned when I was shopping for 1Ms a few months ago. Honestly you're probably better off getting a full extended warranty for about the same $$$ or a little bit more----something more comprehensive. The CPO warranty is a 2 year extension only....up to 100k miles

Turns out the dealer is actually trying to charge me way more than 10% of the residual I mentioned for the extended warranty. More like $8000 :O

That's ridiculous! The BMW platinum or gold extended warranty will cost you less and has better coverage than CPO. Look into that option.
Good luck.

It's about 2500 to certify a car and does add quite a bit to the value. I would go with a warranty through bmw though that was more inclusive, as mentioned above, and just add that into the financing. They will still go over the whole car and check it out as well, it's required.

It is sad because this dealer is the only one in the area that I'm sure has not over torqued my wheels so far. Some others have torqued my wheels so tight that even my big neighbor dude with proper breaker bar still can not break the bolts free.

I'll check out the different warranty options and see what they offer.

I believe you can purchase your warranty from any dealer in the country and remember seeing threads where people were discussing which dealer had the best deals on warranties, saving people a lot of money. So, you should be able to contact any dealer to get a price quote and not be stuck dealing with just your local one.

I'm pretty sure you can negotiate. $2500 might be the msrp but I think I've read owners who were able to get it down to $2200 or so.

All good info above. Do note however a 135 is very risky off warranty whereas a 128 is not. Off lease vehicles likely have had BMW maintenance which means only 1 oil change per year. Personally I like buying from an enthusiast who has maintained their vehicle in accordance with Mike Millers old school maintenance schedule.

But no one should buy a 128 over a 135 for just that reason...2 totally different cars IMO.
