Can I replace my Dinan Valved for Koni Yellow?

Hi,

I have Dinan springs and Koni/Dinan valved struts. I know they are custom valved for the Dinan springs. I am in the market to replace both rear struts.

2x Dinan valved rear =$544
2x Koni Yellow rear = $280

Its cheaper for the Koni Yellows, will it be OK matched with the Dinan springs? Or do I NEED the custom valved Dinan ones?

Also... can I send mine in to get rebuilt? That about $150 each.

I'm sure everyone will agree you will be fine with standard koni yellows. As far as I know they have been matched with much more aggressive as well as less aggressive springs. And from what I have seen with good reviews. I have yet to see a bad review for koni yellows.

I just did some more googling, and some reliable sources, Dinan tech, states regular Koni Yellow with 1 for front and 7/8th turn for rear from full soft setting make it matched for Dinan springs just like the Dinan valved ones.....

I am gonna take that with a grain of salt of course.

Yes they are. Unlike current Koni Yellow that are only internally adjustable, Dinan are external.

Koni sells externally adjustable front and rear yellows, they just cost more.

At least on previous gens, Dinan "custom valved" Konis were just out of the box Yellows. Not sure if that is still true for the E82/9x.

Can you please link to that Dinan Tech site? I cannot find it.

The Konis sold by Dinan are not custom valved. They are however tuned on a chassis dyno to match up to the Dinan Springs. This was confirmed by me after a phone call to Dinan support. The previous post regarding using "regular" Koni yellows with the proper number of turns is accurate.

Why do you need to replace the rears? If you bought them from Dinan and can prove it, they are lifetime warranty. Just call them and ask for replacements - they'll even pay the shipping.
