Tip: Removing Plasti-dip From Kidney Grilles

So, like me you sprayed your kidney grilles black with Plasti-dip to see if you liked the look without dropping the cash on the real deal Performance ones.

For whatever reason you want to remove it; maybe it just looks tatty after leaving it on so long

The official method for removing Plasti-dip is to peel it off. Fine if it's a big panel but not for grilles as I found out as there are too many curves, angles, whatever.

The other method is to coat the dipped area in WD40 and scrub. It breaks down the dip well but it takes ages and is messy.

After much frustration, I did the following so I hope this saves someone time.

1. Remove grilles and separate rim section from slatted section.
2. Fill your sink with hot water and washing-up liquid and soak grilles for 15mins roughly.
3. Scrub the grilles with abrasive side of a double sided dish sponge and watch the dip just flake off.
4. For any parts that you can't get your sponge and fingers into the grab an old tooth brush and scrub, it has the same effect.

My experience with dipped grilles? Looks great for a year and then starts to degrade.

I've been told gasoline works wonders as well (at least for rims), rinse quickly though.

Plasti-dip, then clear coat. Mine have been looking good for a while now!

Won't all the scrubbing scratch the chrome finish on the grills?

Didn't for me. Obviously don't go at it like the Incredible Hulk or with a wire sponge.

From my experience, using goo gone to break it down works well.
