How low would you go?
I am down to 26 miles to empty. How low have you taken the fuel to? Anyone ever go negative?

26 miles would be pushing the envelope to me. That would be ~ 1 gallon. I also agree that I woudn't trust the OBC to that degree. I generally don't go much below 1/4 tank, but if I get the fuel warning I stop and get gas.

I know it's not good to let your car get too low, especially in cold weather, but I have gone 5-6 miles past zero. Highway gas station closed etc.. Of course this was in my E46, since I'm waiting for my E91.

I usually fill my tank when I have a quarter tank left but I have gone down to 12 miles once....

Does not make sense that you could have a negative number distance to empty. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Kramer test drives the Saab until it runs out of fuel.

I went as low as 24 miles once.... but I try to avoid the fuel warning light whenever possible.

I've been down to 4 before. It was sort of scary because I was in the boonies and I really didn't feel like walking. ....was driving my e46.

Ok, so my car counted down to zero miles left with my current MPG average multiplied by the amount of gas it was sensing, then being to rebel that I am and the fact that there was no gas station open, I drove another 5 to 6 miles.
That was a funny episode though.

Let's say you are low on feul and there are no stations readily available that you are aware of. Should you speed up to get to the station quicker or should you drive the speed limit to save gas. Just something I've sometimes wondered about.

Remember that your cars optimum performance is attained when your gas tank is full or near full.

well, if you run the tank down to 0 mileage remaining, just note how much gas you put in when you fill up, then you'll know the fuel that was left in the tank
all fuel gauges are so pessimistic that even at 0 miles remaining you probably have 2 gallons left |

I have no problems getting down to mid 30kms to go. Did that for years in my e46 without problem and same with my e90 now. In fact I don't like filling up when I still have more that 1/4 tankful.
Just my silliness.
