What I call the "N1 style" exhaust is marked by both the large melon-shooter round muffler with a massive 4" tip and a very straight with minimal bends. This grants the best power and lowest weight. Generally this means it hangs very low rather than be neatly tucked under the car which would require more bends. They're also incredibly loud.
I had an N1 style on my Subaru for a while, and had to leave the silencer in it for everything but the track. I swapped it out for a Maddad system which was still a full 3" all the way with a straight-through Magnaflow 3" core muffler, and was MUCH more livable, only slightly louder than stock.
