Heat from inside

I feel there is heat from the two sidewall beside the shift stick after driving for a while, not sure if that's normal. Do you experience the same thing?

Check if your rear vents are set to hot air (red )
This increases the heat due to hot air being pumped to rear vents

Set them to cold

In fact, yes. Is that the reason?

Could be heat caused by the transmission.

there's a a big transmission down there in that tunnel, that wouldn't be there in a FWD car, and it generates heat/transfers heat from the engine into the passenger compartment...

it should be just barely noticable though, certainly shouldn't be hot

There are 2 other threads on the forum with the same complaint, and both turned out to be rear vents set to hot. Setting them to cold fixed it

Simply setting the rear vent to cold may not be an acceptable solution if you have passengers that want warm air. There is a service bulletin on this and a problem with the insulators. I had my E91 scheduled to have this looked at (because it gets pretty hot) but I postponed, because I didn't want to be the first one they fix.

Do you have the bulletin number?

That bulletin was for the ducts that take the air to the rear being loose, and allowing hot air to esape

On the contrary, most FWD cars also experience, although slightly less, because since there is no driveshaft, that is often the place chosen to run the exhuast pipping, which obviously gets pretty hot...

I think the bulletin refers to spacers not properly in place, which puts the ducts in contact with the console shell. That makes the plastic sides of the console get quite warm. Could be my mistake - I thought that was what he was describing.
