Can't take the "Ghetto" out of some people
So I'm driving back from lunch today and I notice a black e36 with CF hood, exhaust, rims, etc. behind me. As soon as I pull in, he floors it to do a "drive-by" to show me he has the "bomb-ass" car. That is soo lame, I thought only ricers did that. I had that happen to me all the time when I was driving my honda prelude. I'm not impressed by his loud exhaust, or anything for that matter, in fact, I thought the car look ugly and riced anyways. I so thought that buying into the BMW family would be a nice step up in terms of ricers but I guess not. This is so far the only bad instance, every other 3 series owner(old or new) has given a nice smile in passing.
Danny

as soon as the cars get old enough and cheap enough, they'll find their way into ricers hands, who will promtly put a large wing and coffee can exhaust on it

That is funny, some people see themselves in what I call the "mirror of delusion"...despite the fact that your car is new and much nicer, they are in their own little world.

anyone else seen the folks (I've only seen old asian women doing this though) wearing a big long clear billed visor pulled all the way down over their face???? When I see that going on in a 3, I feel bad |

Hilarious, I've seen this more and more here in NYC. Some of the visors aren't even clear - they're tinted, so it's like you're looking at some character from a sci-fi movie driving the car, yet it's just an older asian woman. |

In North America, people want a tan. In Asia, everyone wants to be pale white. People who are pale white are considered to be of higher class. In the past, the rich lived in lavish homes sheltered from the sun. The poor had to work on rice fields in the blistering sun and developed darker complexions. Even though that was long ago, Asians still value people with pale white skin. Big sun visors is nothing. In Asia, u can buy SPF 120 sunscreen and many North American cosmetic companies, like Estee Lauder, sell skin-whitening products. Of course, they don't sell skin-whitening things here because that would be considered a bit racist. Last edited by icedragon; 08-03-2005 at 11:45 PM.. |

I like to think of myself as tolerant and accepting. And then I made the mistake of checking out THAT LINK. What the heck, I like hairy salty fish on my pizza, so to each his own poison. Not sure where to find the function in that form, or form in that function... But I don't think we need to diss anyone here for driving whatever they want, or use terms like "ghetto." Live and let live.

"ghetto"
To be honest, some of the products that Hartage, Hamann, etc... put out look as "Ghetto" as anything on the street. Do not let the sheen of exclusivivity fool you. Sometimes the emperor has no clothes. I had an E-36 325 with an M-3 exhaust, bilsteins, conforti chip, etc... I did it for the performance enhancements. I even put a conforti "shark" emblem on the rear. I ask everyone on this forum to take it easy sometimes. All the 325 vs 330 or de-badging, etc... is foolish. There are people with E-30 M-3's who swear that is the true spirit of the M3, but to todays drivers, that M3 would be considered loud and ghetto (no sound proofing, screaming exhaust etc....) Bottom line is BMW's are for precision driving, not to announce your affluence. I had a G-35 coupe blow by me at at least 130 because I was doing 100 and he came out of no wher. My response is so what. E-30 318 owners are just as proud of their cars. Ours cars are built on this heritage and thats why the twin kidney design lives on. Lets embrace this heritage. I have owned a 77 320i, 95 325i, 96 318ti, and my current car. I feel I know BMW's pretty well and have enjoyed every car. I suggest we let everyone do the same.
