i want to know about the maintance of the gearbox and engine, the car itīs new, can i exige the gearbox or i need to use it normal some kilometers ?? this gearbox is with oil lubrication? or itīs dry like the new dsg gearbox ?

I have to loosen the engine and box making some milles or I can require the car to a certain rpm?

Break in period is first 1200 miles

Then you should change your oil, I wouldn't rev it past 5000rpms while your breaking it in, and the dct is fluid filled and bmw says its a lifetime fluid but that's bullshit. Welcome and enjoy your car!

All that, plus try to vary your engine speeds during the first 1200 mi. But no need to baby it.

Right after 1200 miles I got the oil and diff fluid changed. Then I installed my jb4 downpipes and exhaust and have sense added more. No problems so far and just hit 4000 miles

Why would this be bullshit? Are you saying you know more than BMW engineering about the dct?

Let me guess you change your oil every 15k? Listen to each his own you take car of your car your way and ill take care of mine. And the dude was asking for advice and I gave my 2 cents

Worked at a BMW dealer for a while, lifetime fluid is rated for around 75,000 miles give or take depending on driving style. My cooper S has over 200k on the clock and I only change the manual fluid every 100k and it still drives like new. For most people in the 5 years of ownership they will never have to change the fluid. So it's also a lovely marketing term. Lifetime does not mean your lifetime but the normal lifetime of the car in which its covered under warranty.

Also if the car is driven like your insurance company would want you to drive, the new synthetic oil used in cars today will very much last 15k but that's cutting it close. If you drive spirited then reduce that number to anywhere between 5k and 10k ...... A friend of mine would check his oil and get it analyzed every 5k and found the 15k mile intervals actually held up. And found no better protection changing it at 5k. Again that's his findings. I change mine between 5k and 10k and have never had an issue with many of my cars going well into the 200k mark as I average 50k miles a year.

Engines run cleaner now than they did in the 70's so changing your oil every 5k with synthetic is a bit overkill but I still do as some habits are hard to break.

Almost all cars these days have very long drain intervals for oil. There are many reasons for this, but largely the engines are better engineered. Even normal dino oil is often fine for 7500 miles, and synthetics last even longer. Especially when the car has 8 quarts of it. In particular, newer hypereutectic pistons allow extremely tight cylinder fit lowering blow-by, keeping gasoline out of the oil.

You sound both very defensive and there is a definite conspiratorial tone to your post, neither of which are justified. No one is well serviced by that kind of post.

This is nothing more than advances in technology. You are more than welcome to send your oil off for analysis to someone like Blackstone Labs if you want to really see how your oil is holding up. As long as the filter isn't clogged and the additives are still active and haven't broken down oil can last a lot longer than you might think.

Good luck finding a scientific test of all the air filters specifically for the N54 showing both airflow and filtration. You can ask manufacturers for numbers, but they won't be comparable.

You will find some comparos out there (Google, not here), but not specifically for the N54/N55. You can try to ask various manufacturer the particle size they filter, but it won't tell you much about comparable flow nor how bad flow degrades as they get dirty, again in any sort of comparable way.

Unfortunately, that's one of those things that really requires some good bench testing and there is no Consumer Reports out there regularly testing these things. There is no independent rating on filtration like a home air filter (MERV, MPR, etc).

The stock filter on the N54/N55 is pretty darn big. If you are just willing to replace it faster than suggested if it looks dirty that will probably help.

Then there is the question of what the real affect is of using an aftermarket filter that allows larger particles in...

so the best filtration is the stock air filter, i saw afe airfilters, look ar this

ilter Types

AFE Pro Dry
50% air flow over stock (This would be like comparing a panel filter to OEM panel)
99.2% filtration

AFE Pro 5R (oiled)
75% air flow over stock (This would be like comparing a panel filter to OEM panel)
98.6% filtration

what do you think about this filter ?

http://afepower.com/shop/details_new...artno=54-81912

another posibility its air filter with "scorcher module" what is the diference between jb4 ??
