M Mobility Kit in 1M

I have a pin hole (literally) leak in my rear tire, roughly every 10 to 14 days the tire pressure warning would come on. I went to the shop today and tried to have it fixed but the shop told me I had to get a new tire (75% tread left) because the hole was near the shoulder of the tire and they wouldn't/couldn't fix it. Has anyone used the Sealant and Compressor kit in the 1M, do you think the sealant will fix this annoying slow leak? Any help is appreciated.

The problem is the shop won't fix it, they want me to buy a brand new tire.

Try a different shop. Get them to use a T patch, which is both a glued on patch, plus a plug to fill the hole.

And if that doesn't get it done, do your own plug (Dynaplug kit or otherwise) to see if it'll stop leaking.

Will try tomorrow, thanks for the advice. I just want to keep this set for one more year and then get PSS.

if it's at the shoulder of the tire, even if you fix the damage will get worse. so best to change for your own safety

I had two punctures on my L rear within two months. I didn't care about the first as the tread was toast anyway so I just bought new tires -- but I got the second within three months. Both were in the shoulder of the tire and I replaced them. Yes it sucked but the peace of mind is worth it. I'd rather replace things past 100% than go cheap and have it precipitate a wreck down the road that could cost me even more.

There is a reason why we don't fix tires with a puncture that close to the sidewall, it will compromise the strength of the tire.

Just because you WANT the tires to last another year, does not mean you can.

Replace the tire.

Yes, this is certainly the story heard from BMW, third-party shops and forum people.

BUT - it is not definitive. It depends upon the size and location of the puncture. Some instances CAN be fixed, and permanently. I have had good luck in two out of two situations.

In terms of "safety" - if you're observant, careful and use common sense, a toll and plug material will not cause further damage. They just may not fix the loss of pressure. It will be quite obvious if the original damage is so extensive that an attempted repair would exacerbate a safety issue.

Even so ... a repair can sufficiently slow air loss so that a drive can be made for full replacement.

At least make an attempt. If it doesn't work then the tire has to be discarded anyway and you're out the price of the kit, but you have learned something. If it does work ...

Replace the tire, this is a safety issue, tire places don't just refuse to repair tires because they want you to buy a new one.

Just as an FYI, I believe it is illegal to patch a Z rated tire because of speed ratings and compromising the safety of the tire.

I plugged mine to ge me through a week of driving before I stuck the car away for the winter. A new set is on the menu for next season. I was nervous the whole time driving on a plugged tire. Do what others say and replace it.

Rather just get the tyre repaired by your local garage.

Wait a tick --- If you use the mobility kit, you need to replace the tire?!

You can get some great deals on second hand tires to match the 75% tread left on the other rear tire. I have had great luck at getting near new tires from ebay for less than 50% of new price shipped to my door. For instance, here is a Michelin PS2 with 6/32nd no repairs for $150 shipped to your door:
