JB4 G5 install fail. But why?

Hello all,

So my amazing BF bought me a JB4 for my car, which we tried to install yesterday night, only to find that the car would stall straight after we turn on the engine.

We checked all the connections multiple times and everything seems to be correct, but the car just didn't seem to like it. When we took out the tune, the car started up fine again.

Given that everything seems to be connected correctly, I am at loss to know what the issue is. Has anyone experienced this before? Or have any suggestions on what else to try/check?

Mike is one of the vendors for bms stuff. I think terry would be better; he designed the jb4. If you go to the burger motorsports website you can email him for support

did you try cycling through the steering wheel controls before starting up the car to see if the jb4 was working?

Didn't try that actually. Might try to reinstall it tomorrow or tonight and check it out.

Might double check all the black wires and red wires are where they should be. If still no good I'll take a photo and put it up on N54tech.

Definitely everything was plugged in though. Power cable, USB, all sides of the harness.

Only the brown CPS wires were left unplugged. The harness we have does have a blue and a red cut wire sticking out of the end of the harness though. Not sure what that's for though...

Hey guys,

I tried it again this afternoon but I'm getting the same problem.

Engine takes 5 seconds to crank and then finally starts before getting a half engine light, stalls after 2 seconds and then I get the "take the car to the dealership" light (car on a lift).

I've attached some photos of the install. If someone who knows JB4s please take a look and let me know if I've done anything wrong, it would be much appreciated.

I posted it up on N54tech as well.

Have you double checked the connectors which slide in? (can only go in one way). I was stupid enough to put mine in the wrong way around the first time I installed my JB4 and had similar issues you're having when trying to start the car up

Yeah I've tripled checked them. The black wired subconnectors go into the longer clip and the red wired subconnectors go into the shorter clip. Within those, they can only be slid in one way and also only on one side of the clip. I've also cross checked with the photos on the install guide and everything matches up.

Thanks Edwin. If I haven't figured it out before then I might drop by your place and try work out what the problem is. I have a feeling it might be the harness.

Thanks Steve, I'll see if we're around your area on the weekend and give you a call to see if you're free.

Did you end up getting your trunk tank meth setup?

Yeah I'm thinking the same thing but I reckon it's more likely the harness. Only way to know is to interchangeably swap in a working unit/harness with the ones I have

Was the jb4 a g4 or a g5 board?

Was it an upgrade from a jb3?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the harness needs to be modified if it is an upgrade. A couple of wires need to be swapped around if you are using the old harness.

Probably not the case, but just a thought.

It's a JB4 G5 ISO which would have been upgraded from a G4. It was working for the seller before it shipped so either it has broken in transit or we're doing something wrong lol
