135i spec question..please help

ok.. i bought a set of 264's that have 245/45/18 all around..
i have verified that the fronts are 7.5 and the rears 8.5 .. im getting some rub on my shock in the front..
now im seeing that the 135is comes with 18 inch 215/40/18 in the front..
my car the 135i base comes with 205/50/17..
i also see that the 135is comes with "sport tuned suspension"..
my question is.. if i buy 215/40/18 tires for the front .. will it give me the clearance needed as i would be within the 135is and older 135i coupe oem specs..??
i dont want to put spacers on my shocks.. i think thats ghetto.. but its rubbing pretty bad...
but i dont wanna go splurge either on some 215 and bring em home to still have fitment issues..
please help as my car is immobile at the moment..

All 135i models have the same M Sport suspension.

I have 225/40/18 on my stock size 313 wheels in front with no rubbing, which is a size up from the stock size 215/40/18. Yes, you will be okay with the stock size tires on your 264s in front.

I believe "sport tuned suspension" is what they call it in the 135is description, but it's the same. Check what it's called in the vin decoder. It'll be "M Sport Suspension."

Like I said, 225/40 fits with no rubbing on my stock size wheels up front, so you should be fine with this size or stock size.

wats fucking crazy is.. the 135 in 2011 comes with stock 18 inch rims..
the 135i conv in 2013 comes with either 17 inch or 18 inch m sport package..
as ive recently noticed that the vert and coupe you would think are mostly interchangable... are not ;(

Forgot that you have a vert. That may make a difference with the upsized tires because of your extra weight, but you should still be okay with the stock size 18 inch tires.

Maybe someone with a convertible can chime in on other than stock size tires.

Why not just use a thin spacer on the front and a slightly thicker one on the rears(for looks). Probably 5mm and 15mm's would be my best guess for best fitment.

Maybe Gary@TireRack can help you out?

Good idea Dackelone. Maybe he'll still be able to use those bigger tires.

Yes. The 225 will be 20mm narrower so you will have an extra 10mm of clearance for the shock. The 225 will also be approximately 1.5" smaller in diameter.

For future reference, when talking about tire sizes the first number is the width (in mm). The second number is the aspect ratio of the sidewall to the width. So for a 225/40, it means that the sidewall height is 40% of the width, or 225x0.4=90mm. A higher number here typically means a taller tire. The last number is the wheel diameter.

the original owner said he was running a 1/4 inch spacer in the front and that eliminated rub..tried looking local for it but all the chain auto part places of course didn't carry anything for 5x120.. back,esteban... would 5 mm be enough.. i could understand if it was like rubbing sidewall.. but its a ways in.. and then don't i run the risk of rubbing fender as i go out.. someone told me 215 on 7.5 wide rim wouldn't mount.. ??
sucks cuz i mounted em and drove off as the place was closing... ud think the fucker installing em would of spun the wheel while he had the car on the lift..
man they look nice and tucked in there as of now... my heart broke when i smelt the rubber ;((

You buy wheel spacers from TireRack or BurgerTuning(makers of JB4).

Do NOT buy 12mm spacers for the front wheels bc they tend to fail. Either go with 5mm or 15mm. There's something about the 12mm spacers not having enough "meat" on them to sustain the G forces.

thnx dack and esteban.. i went ahead and ordered 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear continental extreme contact tires.. got a rebate and a solid price for each tire.. i looked at my gf stock 18 tires on her 228.. and man their thin.. these tires ii got are probably gonna look like rubber bands ;( loved the look of those 245's... but... it did feel like the car was not pushing those tires as easily as the stock 205/50 17's ... although felt like it would hinder gas consumption it did feel solid as fuck with the 245...do u guys feel a decrease in acceleration going up a inch on the rims??

Yep. The 1M guys and mod'd 135i guys who drag their cars say the car will turn faster ET's with 17's as opposed to 18's. IF you have a P3 vent gauge.. you can log some 0-60 runs and see for yourself by switching tires.
