Question Painting roof black on AW, help?

Anyone have close up pics of an AW with a black painted roof?

- I'm wondering where exactly the paint starts and ends?
- What color black do you think would be best to use?
- How much should this cost for a good job?

EDIT: Well it looks the like broad consensus is to wrap it instead. I would still would be interested to see some pics of of the door jambs and edges of a wrapped and/or painted roof.

This is basically the look I'm going for (JRB135's car):

I'd get it vinyl wrapped, so in a year when you realize that its not so cool, you will be able to reverse it. =)

I wanna do CF wrap on mine

oh, hadn't thought of wrapping it, that's a good idea. So you're not a fan of the black roof look though?

I`d just vinyl it.
I`ve done it to my e46, and I`m sure it`d look awesome on the 1 series too.
If you still want to paint it, use bmw jetblack it`s damn close to the color bmw uses for the shadowline products.
I used it for diffusor, kidneys etc.

I'm a fan, but I'm not sure how LONG I'd be a fan for. I like to change things on my car and to me paint is one of those things that isnt easy to reverse.

good luck with whatever option you do

I think vinyl is the way to go because, like some of the members mentioned, you can take it of whenever you want to.
I recommend the flat black or matte black vinyl!
I've seen whole 6 series wrapped with flat black and also a white WRX with the roof flat blacked and it is really sick.

here's that 6 series in flat black, just to give you an sample of a flat black vinyl. cheers

+1 on vinyl, cost effective and can be removed. It's also easier to maintain.

What he said, that black roof looks sick. Would love to understand the cost. I am planning to powdercoat my 261 rims and I think a black roof would set off the look I am going for.

I can't give you exact measurement from the top of my head but what I can give you is discounted pricing sheet I just found, Seems like it's a good time to jump on it. GL

The door jams do not come into play, since they are on the other side of your "demarcation line" of the trim rail, for the vinyl.

Vinyl will also help you on resale, since you would be greatly limiting yourself to select few potential purchasers, if you painted it.

The other benefit that was mentioned already is if you change your mind.... I had the vinyl Tii stripes on my alpine white car, and once they didn't mean as much to me, I simply peeled them off.

carbon wrap is lame. if it's not a true, structural carbon fiber roof like the m3 and m6 then it's ricer. however, the bmw jetblack to match the shadowline trim looks great. not worth painting.

my two cents.

anyone know of a vinyl that matches the shadowline?
