You have no idea what you're talking about with regards to the 1M. If it's fully loaded, MSRP is more than $54K. If it's a stripper, MSRP is still more than $46K.

Translation...We have a 1M for sale... it's 54K.... and we have tried and failed to sell it at 5-7K over... but we'll tell any caller it's 10K over and attempt to support that by telling the caller that they turned down an offer of 9K over.

Just learned of a fully-loaded AW 1M with 5,400 miles that the owner would sell for $59,000. No relations or interest in the deal, but pm me if you want details.

59k used. So my first thought: fast forward ~1.5 years. You have the new, lighter M3/M4 out making over 100 hp more than the 1M. It's probably 25 seconds quicker on the Ring than the 1M, but more refined.

You also have the M2 out or coming, nearly as fast as the next M3 ~(20 seconds quicker than the 1M, Rand P. likes it) but smaller and raw in the veign of the 1M. The M2 might be 50k? I'm wondering what low miles 1Ms will be trading for in that world...

A few counterpoints to consider:

1. HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW 1 Series???? I personally think it's one of the ugliest cars to come out of BMW. The M2 will be based on that.

2. The F30 M3 will NOT be lighter than the 1M. It's still based on the F30 3-series and that car is only a few pounds lighter than the E90/92 and it's even bigger. Also, if you want refined, you should get a 5er or 6er.

3. 'Ring times are relevant, if your commute is actually on the 'ring ... or you live close to it.

4. M2 is probably 3-4 years off and will be designed jointly by Engineers and Accountants (like every other M car). The 1M was a one off (I hope this isn't true, but economics are economics)

While the 1M will be based off the new 1..er.. 2... whatever...the M version will undoubtedly improve upon it..... I personally was never taken with the E82... an E82 1M though.. is in my garage!

Otherwise.. can definitely agree with much of the rest... Either way.. an M2 will start at probably 50K... probably will make less power from the 4 cylinder turbo..... and unless they seriously drop 250 pounds from the car.... I don't see it being quicker... except with the DCT..

These types of posts make me laugh out loud! Is ANYONE dumb enough to buy ANY car these days and think the value of it isn't dropping right to the floor? This post and some other imple that we/you/I are buying this car as an investment. I bought this car cause it's fast and fun and now.

Let me remind you of what happened to the values of E30 M3's when the E36 M3's came out. Was the E36 excepted right away as a "better option"? Did everyone like the E46 better then E36's? I think not. And let's not even talk about the "open arm" greeting the new V-8 got.

This is a cool car, one year of production, fast and fun. But don't make the mistake of thinking that the next gen of ANY BMW car will be better then the past. Even BMW marketing tried to bring back the memory of the E30 M3 to help sell the 1M.

Exactly new != better, it just means new. There are plenty examples across products that show that new usually just means less expensive to produce.

Once again, please take the debate to another post! this is about finding a fellow activist his dream car not debating back and forth. I appreciate everyone's opinions on this post but please take it all somewhere else, there are dozens of other posts covering the topics being debated!

Consider this. An E46 M3 CSL is a rarer, arguably better car. It's faster on the Ring than the new M3 or the 1M, and I do think ring times are indicative of more than just how quickly a car can lap. It's much less expense spared than the 1M (carbon bits, etc). It was followed by fatter, slower, banglalized cars, leaving it the high point in the M3 line for over a decade. One could argue that if anything is going to hold value that should be it. And yet great, low mileage examples are 40% off there new MSRP at best, generally less with normal miles. That type of depreciation would put a low miles, mid-spec 1M at 30-35k in about 5 years, which is damn good for depreciation overall, but less impressive if you're paying 60k.

To the OPs, this is a worthwhile discussion. I'd suggest you're better off getting a bump and some eyeballs. We know you are looking for a car. Anything to add to that, other than you are still looking for a car? If not, that makes for a pretty boring thread...

Although your comments regarding the e46 M3 CSL are valid, they are irrevelant to this thread because 1. the e46 M3 CSL was not available in the US, and 2. Does not relate to the thread asking for help with regard to finding a 1M.

I am sure anyone wanting a 1M has their eyes open, especially at this point in time regarding trying to find one.

Good luck in finding one...they are getting harder and harder to find.
