I bought oil from my service dept, but I believe you can use castrol syntech. It shoud be in your owner's manual. I also believe that there's a BMW spec long life rating on some oils but I cant remember what it is.

There are several BMW acceptable oils but the Castrol is the German one, not the commonly available oil. I would use something readily available rather than let it get seriously low but the best idea is to get a quart from the BMW dealer.

You can use ANY oil that says: "BMW Long Life-1".
The best oil is the one that BMW says to use, ie Castrol oil sold ONLY at the dealership! Other Castrol oils sold in the USA do not carry the BMW LL1 rating (I believe). IF you use Mobil-1, use only the one in the BLACK label, 0w40 European car blend BMW LL1. |

Call your dealer they will tell you what the best solution is. When I baght my 128i, the dealer included a bottle of oil that came in a castrol casewith disposable funnels the velcrosto the side of the trunk. I know thAt the case is a BMW accessory.

Why don't you just go to a dealer and have them top it of for you. I think it won't take 5 mins. to do that. won't even cost you anything considering your under warranty.

I used Mobil 1 with required viscosity. Got it at AutoZone. Less than 1k miles later the dealer did the first oil change. No problems, other than the tech spilled some oil on my engine and it smell as it burned off for about 10 miles. Really, it's not that hard to keep things clean, but they don't care as much as I do. |
