There's evolution, which presumes that a mutation is transfered to the next generation because it either confers a benefit or is at least neutral, and then there's this.

The front of the new 1 is a random mutation. The question is whether it is at best neutral or at worst fatal. No one is suggesting it is advantageous.

Actually, if they change the front to look better (more aggressive) and offer a more powerful version (300hp ?) then I might be tempted.

Nah. The back end looks like a VW. The side profile of the front is not bad, but from head on it is the suck.

Looks good to me from this angle.

Sorry for the huge pic, mods shrink it if possible.

Looks good to me too, you can see how the bumper is sculpted with lines in it that match the contours of the headlight... Pretty nifty.

Interesting how the BMW emblem is on the bumper and not the hood.

To each their own but I dont think this is a case of "different is bad." I think many people simply just don't like the direction of the new design.
Different can't "ALWAYS" be good

Just like the new 5er and most likely the new F30 3-series

I love the new 5, my uncle bought one recently and its one nice machine. For a moment i was thinking i bought the wrong model but i can't afford a $50k+ car plus it's not as involving as the 1er.

I know what you mean, I owned an E39 540i for 3 years, it was an amazing machine, but definitely not as engaging as the E46 3 series we have or the E82.

I don't know... the front bumper still looks like a mess. There are lines all over the place with no defined shape.

Cool. So there is hope for my 135i replacement.
