Brake pad break in (OE pads)
My service advisor told me there is no break-in period or procedure for my new OE brake pads. Is this true? If not, what is the break-in procedure?
(The new pads clearly don't contact the entire surface of the old rotors... there's rust/corrosion on a big portion of the rotor where the pad should contact.) |

There is a break in procedure and your dealer should also change the rotors too. The rotors get rounded out due to the brembos and you should go back and demand new rotors too. Just take it easy on the breaks for the first 202 miles. no hard stopping.

I was told the rotors had not reached the minimum thickness yet so that's why they weren't replaced. (The brake pads were replaced under the free maintenance program.)

BMW rotors (non m) are stamped with a min thickness at which if above then a pad change only is required as the rotors will last the life of the new replacement pads. Break in is nothing special no bedding in is necessary. Normally within a short time pads will feel fine

I'm just hoping they'll be ready for my HPDE track day this Saturday. I've driven about 100 miles with the new pads. I've read not to overheat them too soon, so that's my concern.
