Pricing advice on 135i in SF

Hi All,

I'm looking quite seriously at a 2012 135i in my area but I'm not too keen on the price. The car is a factory executive model, only 6,286 miles. DCT, Msport and Convenience packages, plus heated seats. Oyster leather interior, deep sea blue exterior.

It's basically exactly what I've been looking for except I wish it was Alpine White and that it had silver trim instead of walnut (but I can swap that later).

Problem: Accident on the carfax - dealer knows nothing about it, says they bought it via factory executive auction from New Jersey. Dealer swears they would have never bought it if there was anything wrong with it. I haven't seen it in person yet.

They are asking $40K. Based on what I know about factory executive models, they probably got the car for around, what, $33K?

There are an awful lot of 135s selling for low 30s, admittedly with higher mileage. I certainly wouldn't buy this one at asking price but not sure how hard I should bargain with them. Any advice from the 1-series veterans? I don't think I want to spend more than 39-40K out the door.

Do a test drive and check it out..40k @ 7k miles isn't that bad..

Get the dealer to knock off 3-4k off of that and you'll have a good deal.

I bought my car 2013 135 IS for 53k.

I am located in SF and bought my car in Los Angeles. 135i's are a bit cheaper down there. My car was $3-4k cheaper than the same example in the bay.

Thanks guys, I'm pretty sure I can get them down to the amounts mentioned. They've had it listed for almost two months. I'll probably try to see it this weekend. Next track day isn't until September so I have a little time.

Well I bought it, and I did get them to knock quite a bit off the asking price, although I still nearly walked away. Most money I have ever spent on anything in my life, lol. Admittedly was a terrifying experience.

Now I have begun the process of trying to figure out how to work all the fancy tech they put in these things. I think I got my radio programmed, so that's a start. Now I'm creating a USB stick for music since BMW won't allow my iPod to play without their special cord.

Glad to be a part of the club. I think the car will continue to grow on me as I get used to it. It's been a tougher psychological exercise for me than I expected since I'm still very fond of the car I've been driving for the past 11 years.
