135i Cooling ?
Hello everyone,
I have owned a 135 for about a year now and this is my first post. Thank everyone for sharing their knowledge. It has been very helpful. As you know our turbo cars generate more heat than na cars. I have not had any issues, but would like to improve on this.I dont track the car, but do have fun on the back roads. On hot days and heavy traffic I notice oil temp rising. I have thought about the BMW PPK which would add a stronger cooling fan and a additional radiator. Another up grade would be a larger oil cooler such as DINAN that is about twice the size of our stock unit. Has anyone with either of these upgrades noticed any improvement? |

For the PPK the main radiator is the same/untouched 135i part. The PPK only adds an aux radiator (tucked up into the drivers fender area) a higher wattage(stronger) radiator fan, new spark plugs and the SW tune (+23 Hp or so). |

Thanks everyone for your input. During nromal driving I dont exceed 250.This is with the stock tune.I thought that with an after market tune the higher boost levels would be generating even more heat. However it seems that it is not an issue with most folks runing a tune. Looks like the best option to assist cooling would be the PPK version 2 since it has special pricing right now. Thanks again for your thoughts on this matter.

You could run a 80/20 Mix of distilled water to coolant, with a bottle or 2 of water wetter. That would reduce both engine coolant temp, as well as oil temps. This would be the most economical "mod", and you are going to get the biggest bang for your buck. If you not tracking your car on a regular basis, you really should not need to have any additional cooling beyond this. I think the ECU goes into overtemp at 280 deg oil temps. |

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but are there OEM or aftermarket larger radiators for the 135i?

Ya not id wanna drain all my coolant. Couldnt i just add half of that to my coolant already in the tank. Hopefully it wouldnt cause an overflow or something.

Yes you can add water wetter to your current coolant without draining anything. It wont make it overflow. While it will help, having more water .vs anti-freeze will result in a larger drop in temp.
This post will help explain water wetter, and using a greater concentration of distilled water vs coolant a bit more: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...9&postcount=75 |

Harold,
How much one of your radiators cost? I don't see anything listed on your site

Good deal getting the part numbers for the PPK items. Researching older threads on the PPK I found that if anyone is planning on running the DINAN cf CAI that it will not work with the PPK.The air filter on the intake is located where the extra radiator of the PPK would be located.
