1300 Mile break in?

Does it say anywhere in the car manual what the break in period is? Should you not exceed a certain MPH during the break in period? Thanks...

Off the top of my head I think it's page 50.

Edit: Boy was I wrong, page 116 of the manual, 118 of the PDF

Probably but I was told not to exceed 180 km/h and 4000 rpm, and to keep the rpm varied. The period was 2000 km.

Found it in the manual. 1200 miles is the break in period.

Herr Roller, who is the director of the BMW Delivery Center in Freimann and who did my delivery personally, told me not to worry about the speed and just not to go over 4000 rpm. This translates into being able to go 180 km/h but he cautioned me to keep the rpm changing as much as possible.

The dealer told me 1000 when I picked it up. Hope the 200 miles didn't make a difference.

If you are concerned about the break-in period, just trust the numbers stated in the manual. Probably some dealers thinks that the numbers stated in the manual is too conservative therefore, they tell you another value.

ChineseGuy asked, "...can some give us the correct #s" It's in the Owners' Manual and may vary from country to country.
